Overview

Senior Constructive Designer (Permanent)
Victoria, BC or Ottawa, ON or Halifax, NS

Expected Salary: $80,458 to $98,337

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop solutions with a Structural focus for the integration of new sub-systems / components into existing systems.
  • Support the production of technical drawings and specifications to support the implementation of Engineering Changes on board Victoria Class Submarines and other Naval/Marine platforms.
  • Conduct independent technical studies and assessments of marine structural elements and analyze recommended changes to existing structures to assess the design impact of proposed changes.
  • Check design and drawing outputs from more junior designers, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Provide technical assistance and feedback to designers to ensure the use of correct methods and tools for assigned tasks.
  • Provide marine constructive subject matter expertise and practical experience into multidisciplinary teams delivering engineering design, development, and design intent maintenance projects.
  • Conduct onsite inspections/surveys as necessary.
  • Participate in the development of in-house processes and tools used to support and improve the way we work.
  • Collaborate with Engineers and other Designers to deliver multi-disciplinary designs that meet contracted time, cost, and quality requirements.
  • Work directly, and communicate effectively, with other stakeholders, including project managers, configuration, engineering, and other departments to meet delivery targets.
  • Liaise with sub-contractors to ensure design for manufacturability.
Qualifications
  • Strong technical skills including post-secondary education; degree, diploma and/or certificate in Engineering technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Registration as an Applied Science Technologist (AScT), Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) or Professional Engineer (PEng) with the applicable provincial association.
  • Eight (8) years of experience in structural drafting and design.
  • Submarine specific knowledge, such as the standards that control structural design elements of the submarines, considered an asset.
  • Experience with creation of Engineering Change Installation Packages.
  • Recent and significant experience working with 2D and 3D CAD tools and overseeing the CAD work of others (knowledge in SolidWorks and AutoCAD is a differentiating asset).
  • Proven ability to work independently on complex design tasks and to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills, including writing formal reports and delivering presentations to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior staff and industry placement trainees (Co-ops).
  • You are eligible for a Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance.
