Job summary

Tetra Tech is seeking a Senior Hydrotechnical Engineer for our Calgary, Alberta office. This is a new vacancy on our Power team, and the successful candidate will perform hydrological assessments, hydraulic design, andPrepare reports for regulatory submissions, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams on projects ranging from $10M to $400M.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc. or B.Eng.) in Civil Engineering.
• PE (P.Eng.) registration in Canada or US is required.
• 6+ years of experience in consulting engineering.
• Expertise in hydrotechnical engineering and hydraulic structures.
• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (Teams, SharePoint); advanced Excel.
• Experience in hydrological modeling, sediment transport, and hydraulic analysis.
• Strong communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects; travel willingness.

Responsibilities

• Conduct hydrological assessments including low-flow analysis and flood flow statistics.
• Use hydrotechnical modeling software to develop analyses and summaries.
• Perform hydraulic design for river projects (weirs, intakes, dams).
• Prepare technical reports and regulatory submissions for permitting.
• Conduct energy and economic evaluations for hydropower projects.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and environmental regulations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on hydropower projects ($10M–$400M).
• Support ongoing professional development and maintain safety discipline.

Position Summary

We are currently seeking a Senior Hydrotechnical Engineer for our Calgary, Alberta office. This is a new vacant position for which we are actively recruiting. • Conduct hydrological assessments, including low-flow analysis and flood flow statistical analysis.
• Utilize industry-standard hydrotechnical modeling software to develop accurate analysis and summaries.
• Perform hydraulic design for river engineering projects, including weirs, intakes, and dams.
• Prepare technical reports and regulatory submissions to support permitting processes.
• Conduct energy and economic evaluations for hydropower plants.
• Ensure compliance with industry standards, project requirements, and environmental regulations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams on hydropower projects ranging from $10M to $400M.
• Support continuous professional development and maintain a high level of discipline knowledge.
• Work safely and report all health and safety concerns.
• Perform additional duties as required.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree (B.Sc. or B.Eng.) in Civil Engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE, P.Eng.) registration in the Unites States or Canada is required.
• 6+ years of experience in consulting engineering.
• Expertise in hydrotechnical engineering and hydraulic structures.
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Teams, SharePoint), with advanced Excel skills being an asset.
• Experience in hydrological modeling, sediment transport, and hydraulic analysis.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines efficiently.
• Willingness and ability to travel as needed.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to sit or stand as required and remain in a stationary position for at least 50% of the workday.
• Frequent use of hands and fingers to handle, manipulate, or feel objects, including continuous operation of a computer and other standard office equipment such as calculators, copiers, and printers.

Work Environment / Environmental Factors

• The majority of work is performed in a professional office setting.
• Periodic travel may be required and could involve limited exposure to extreme temperatures. Travel may include air travel, during which the employee may be required to remain seated for extended periods.
