Job summary

GHD in Ontario is seeking a Senior Conveyance Engineer to be challenged in career development. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of water supply, storm, sanitary sewer conveyance, storage systems and civil design, and will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team across Ontario, North America, and GHD’s global network.

This hybrid role requires in-office collaboration three days a week at GTA offices (Toronto, Mississauga, Markham or Whitby) or Waterloo, with opportunities to lead

Qualifications

• At least 10 years of extensive technical design experience.
• Civil design delivery for large, multi-disciplinary projects.
• Experience with Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build procurement.
• Detailed understanding of local codes and standards.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving and organization.
• Ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Business Group Leaders, Project Managers and Directors focusing on civil design for conveyance and infrastructure.
• Lead and coordinate civil design with engineers and designers; mentor junior staff.
• Coordinate with other disciplines, sub-consultants, municipalities, utilities, stakeholders and clients.
• Communicate with discipline leads to ensure timely, high-quality design that meets schedule and budget.
• Participate in client meetings and address issues as they arise.
• Ensure client requirements and standards are integrated into projects.
• Adhere to BIM and Quality standards and ensure compliance at the project level.
• Contribute to development of engineering standards and evaluate their effectiveness.
• Analyze information to define methods and processes to improve design and delivery.
• Develop capabilities by staying current with technology, regulations and best practices.
• Manage relationships with small to large clients.

The Senior Conveyance Engineer will cooperate and work closely with other members of the multi-disciplinary team, regional team leads across Ontario, Canada, North America and GHD’s global network.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with Business Group Leaders, Project Managers, Project Directors with a focus on civil design for conveyance and civil infrastructure.
• Lead and coordinate all aspects of the civil design with a team of engineers and/or designers. Provide project design leadership, including mentorship and guidance to Intermediate and Junior staff.
• Collaborate with large and small teams. Communicate with other disciplines (transit, bridges, electrical, geotechnical, etc.), sub‑consultants, municipalities, utility companies, other stakeholders and clients.
• Communicate with other discipline leads, designers, and project team members on a regular basis to ensure delivery of technical scope and effective and timely flow of project information to meet scheduled deadlines. Ensure that project design solutions are delivered to the highest standards and meet program and budgetary constraints.
• Participate in client meetings and address critical issues when required.
• Ensure the client’s requirements including specifications and standards are integrated into the project.
• Adhere to GHD BIM and Quality standards and procedures and implement compliance on the project level.
• Contribute to the analysis of information, the preparation of engineering standards and specifications, and the evaluation of the effectiveness of those standards within own engineering discipline.
• Analyze information and specify the methods and process steps required to design and continuously improve processes to deliver the end product within specified cost and quality parameters.
• Develop own capabilities by maintaining an in‑depth understanding of technology, external regulation, and industry best practices.
• Manage relationships with small to large key clients and customers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s (B.Sc.) degree in civil engineering from a recognized college or university.
• A Professional Engineering (P. Eng) license with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) is required.
• Minimum of 10 years’ of extensive technical design experience.
• Demonstrable experience in civil design delivery for larger, multi‑discipline projects.
• Experience working in various procurement environments such as Design‑Bid‑Build and Design‑Build projects.
• Detailed understanding of local Agency (or equivalent) Codes and Standards is required.
• Superior attention to detail, problem solving and organizational skills.
• Performs complex design tasks on projects with understanding of multidisciplinary environment by collaborating with team members from other disciplines for necessary inputs.
• Good understanding of level of effort required to complete the work to assist with project resourcing/timelines.
• Ability to work in multiple parallel projects and within a team environment.
• Ability to work under and meet tight deadlines.

The salary range for this position is $83,400 - $129,400. The posted salary range represents the expected hiring range for GHD locations in its major city centres. Ranges may vary for positions in other locations. At GHD, base salary is determined by your skills, experience, qualifications and work location.
