SENIOR CAMP LEADER ROLES

Position Type: Temporary Full Time

Department: Community Services Department - Recreation Division

File Number: SV25-157

Location: Quinte Sports and Wellness Centre (265 Cannifton Road, Belleville, ON)

Hours: 41 hours per week, 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday to Friday, with Tuesdays being 8:00am – 6:15pm. Note: Training hours (June) will differ.

Employee Group: Non-Union

Salary: $18.75 - $20.54 per hour

Purpose and Scope

As a member of the Community Services Department, this position will provide safe supervision and leadership for children and youth ages 4-17 years with age‑appropriate, well‑planned out games and activities for their designated camp group and be a role‑model and mentor for the Leader‑In‑Training, Camp Helpers, and Junior Camp Leaders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent the City of Belleville in a professional manner with appropriate actions and conduct.
  • Ensure the safety and supervision of the participants and follow all rules and regulations set out by the Department and/or outside organizations.
  • Develop, implement, supervise and evaluate daily activities in their assigned camp, to ensure a successful program.
  • Supervise and evaluate the Leaders‑In‑Training (LIT) participants and volunteers working within their camp.
  • Act as a role model and assist Camp Helpers and Junior Leaders, as needed.
  • Be the point of contact for parents and communicate regularly with them.
  • Problem‑solve when issues arise and provide quality customer service.
  • Assist with the proper handling and care of the equipment, supplies and facilities utilized, and report damage or losses to the Camp Coordinator.
  • Ensure the daily cleanliness of the facility.
  • Ensure the completion and submission of the required administrative forms (injury forms, daily diaries, supply requests, permission forms, special event forms, etc.).
  • Participate in daily activities with the campers (including swimming).
  • Evaluate the overall success of the program, submit reports and provide timely feedback to the Camp Coordinator.
  • Attend all staff training sessions and scheduled staff meetings.
  • Provide timely, accurate information to the Camp Coordinator and respond appropriately to their decisions and directions.
  • Make decisions around child safety, supervision, activity planning, camper’s behaviour management, and evaluating programs, volunteers, L.I.T’s and Jr. Camp Leaders. Senior Leaders must also solve problems and come up with solutions during behavioural incidents, parent complaints, or complaints/concerns from community members while in public spaces. All incidents must be documented and forwarded, in a timely manner, to the Camp Coordinator.
  • Perform all tasks and responsibilities through the lens of Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, ensuring commitment to fairness, representation, accessibility and respect for diverse perspectives and cultures in all aspects of work.

Required Qualifications
  • Post‑secondary student or graduate studying in recreation or a child related field.
  • Valid current Standard First Aid and C.P.R. certification.
  • Valid High Five, Principles of Healthy Child Development certification.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSC) prior to commencing work at the City of Belleville.
  • Minimum of two (2) years/seasons of experience as a Junior Program Leader or equivalent experience working with children in a recreational or educational setting.
  • Experience with program/lesson planning, design, development, and implementation of children’s, age‑appropriate activities.
Asset Qualifications
  • Supervisory experience would be an asset.
Senior Camp Leader (General) – 6 Positions Available

These positions will be general in nature and be associated with a variety of games and activities throughout the summer.

Required Qualifications
  • General knowledge of art, science and sport.
Asset Qualifications
  • Valid 'G' Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle (required for some positions).
  • Bronze Cross, National Lifeguard, or Swim Instructor swimming qualification is considered an asset.
  • NCCP Coaching certifications.
Senior Camp Leader (Sports) – 1 Position Available

This position will focus specifically on sports and recreation related activities.

Required Qualifications
  • Post‑secondary student or graduate studying in a recreation, child related field, or a sports related field.
  • Experience as a participant in sport discipline(s).
  • Experience coaching/instructing sport programs to children of various ages.
Asset Qualifications
  • Valid 'G' Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle (required for some positions).
  • Bronze Cross, National Lifeguard, or Swim Instructor swimming qualification is considered an asset.
  • Experience as a sport referee or official.
Senior Camp Leader (Theatre) – 1 Position Available

This position will focus specifically on theatre and drama related activities.

Required Qualifications
  • Experience as a theatre participant or work/volunteer experience.
  • Experience coaching/instructing programs to children of various ages.
Senior Camp Leader (Water) – 1 Position Available

This position will focus on aquatic related sports and activities, along with regular camp activities.

Required Qualifications
  • Valid current National Lifeguard certification.
Asset Qualifications
  • Valid 'G' Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle (required for some positions).
  • Swim Instructor swimming qualification is an asset.
  • ORCA certifications.
  • NCCP Coaching certifications.
Recruitment Process
Stage 1 – Interviews

Interviews with candidates selected for the interview stage will be scheduled between February 20, 2026 and February 22, 2026.

Stage 2 – Offer Letter and Onboarding Paperwork

Offers will go out before the end of March 2026 and a date will be included in all offer letters for return of onboarding paperwork.

Stage 3 – Start Date

The anticipated commencement of this position is June 6, 2026 to June 28, 2026 (training, reduced schedule), regular schedule from June 29, 2026 until September 4, 2026.
