Job summary

Profound Medical is seeking a Senior Buyer to lead strategic procurement for direct and indirect materials, ensuring uninterrupted supply for medical devices. You will manage supplier relationships, negotiate contracts, and support regulatory compliance across GMP/ISO13485 environments.

You will collaborate with Manufacturing, Planning, Quality, Regulatory, and Engineering to optimize cost, lead times, and performance while maintaining documentation and data accuracy.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of purchasing, sourcing, or procurement experience in a regulated manufacturing environment.
• Experience with global suppliers and supplier negotiations.
• Knowledge of GMP, ISO 13485, FDA, Health Canada, and other regulated manufacturing requirements.
• ERP/MRP experience with SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics.

General Accountability

The Senior Buyer is responsible for the strategic procurement of direct and indirect materials, components, services, and capital equipment required to support the manufacturing and distribution of medical devices. This role ensures uninterrupted supply, cost optimization, supplier performance management, and compliance with quality and regulatory requirements. The Senior Buyer collaborates closely with Manufacturing, Planning, Quality, Regulatory Affairs, Engineering, Finance, and Suppliers to support operational objectives and customer commitments.

Duties & Responsibilities

Procurement & Supply Management

• Manage procurement activities for raw materials, components, subassemblies, packaging, and indirect spend categories.
• Execute purchasing transactions including purchase orders, supplier agreements, and contract renewals.
• Ensure timely availability of materials to support production schedules and customer demand.
• Monitor supplier delivery performance, lead times, and inventory levels to minimize supply disruptions.

Strategic Sourcing

• Lead sourcing initiatives to achieve cost savings, quality improvements, and supply continuity.
• Identify, qualify, and develop alternative suppliers to reduce risk and improve competitiveness.
• Conduct supplier negotiations for pricing, contracts, payment terms, and service level agreements.
• Support new product introductions and engineering changes through supplier engagement and sourcing strategies.

Supplier Relationship Management

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.
• Conduct supplier performance reviews using OKRs such as on-time delivery, quality performance, responsiveness, and cost management.
• Drive supplier corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Collaborate with Quality Assurance on supplier qualification, audits, and compliance activities.

Inventory & Planning Support

• Partner with Planning and Manufacturing teams to support Sales, Inventory, and Operations Planning (SIOP) activities.
• Manage inventory levels to balance service, working capital, and operational requirements.
• Analyze demand forecasts and material requirements to identify supply risks and opportunities.
• Support inventory reduction initiatives while maintaining customer service levels.

Regulatory & Quality Compliance

• Ensure procurement activities comply with applicable medical device regulations and quality management system requirements.
• Maintain accurate purchasing records and documentation in accordance with company procedures.
• Support audits and regulatory inspections related to supplier and procurement processes.
• Collaborate with Quality and Regulatory teams on risk assessments and supplier controls.

Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to streamline procurement processes and improve operational efficiency.
• Utilize ERP/MRP systems to manage purchasing activities and maintain data accuracy.
• Develop metrics and reporting related to supplier performance, cost savings, inventory, and material availability.
• Participate in cross-functional projects supporting business growth and operational excellence.

Education & Certifications

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Operations Management, or a related field.
• Professional procurement certification (CPM, CPSM, SCMP, or equivalent) preferred.

Key Attributes

• 7+ years of purchasing, sourcing, or procurement experience within a regulated manufacturing environment.
• Minimum 3 years in the medical device, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, diagnostics, or life sciences industry preferred.
• Experience managing suppliers across global supply chains.
• Proven track record of successful supplier negotiations and cost reduction initiatives.
• Strong knowledge of procurement, inventory management, and supply chain principles.
• Understanding of GMP, ISO 13485, FDA, Health Canada, and other regulated manufacturing requirements.
• Experience with ERP/MRP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or equivalent.
• Advanced analytical and problem solving skills.
• Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship management abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis tools.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $85,000 - $110,000 CAD. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and job-related factors. This role may also be eligible for participation in the company’s benefits programs, such as a group RRSP and medical benefits paid by the employer.
