Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer, Integrations Platform based in Canada.

As a Senior Backend Software Engineer, you will help shape the platform powering a large-scale ecosystem of integrations and trust automation.
You will define technical direction, build reliable backend services, and create APIs and shared primitives that enable teams to integrate faster.
The role focuses on authentication, data ingestion, schema evolution, observability, and scalable platform foundations.
You will work across complex technical challenges involving external systems, distributed architectures, and security-sensitive data.
As a senior technical leader, you will mentor engineers and influence engineering standards, architecture, and development practices.
You will also help advance self-service, low-code, no-code, and AI-assisted approaches to integration development.
This is an opportunity to make high-impact technical decisions in a fast-growing, remote-first environment.

Accountabilities:
  • Set technical strategy and direction for critical platform capabilities, ensuring the architecture can evolve alongside rapid business and product growth.
  • Design, build, and evolve scalable APIs, SDKs, platform abstractions, and self-service development paths used by internal teams, partners, and customers.
  • Own core primitives for authentication, data ingestion, schema evolution, lifecycle management, and observability across integrations.
  • Develop secure, reliable, well-documented backend services and developer tooling, including CI/CD capabilities that improve engineering productivity.
  • Build resilient integrations with external systems and address challenges such as rate limiting, retries, idempotency, webhooks, and schema changes.
  • Drive performance, reliability, operational excellence, and software development lifecycle best practices across the platform.
  • Evaluate and make informed architectural and buy-vs-build decisions, particularly where choices have long-term technical implications.
  • Identify potential risks, scalability constraints, and failure modes proactively, designing solutions that are fault-tolerant and resilient.
  • Mentor and support engineers, establish reusable design patterns, and help raise technical standards across the team.
  • Create enablement resources such as sample integrations, proofs of concept, AI-assisted development capabilities, documentation, and technical workshops.
  • Collaborate across engineering and other functions to influence technical decisions and accelerate adoption of the platform.
  • Use AI tools thoughtfully to improve development workflows, engineering efficiency, and overall impact.
Requirements:
  • 8+ years of experience in backend software development, with a proven track record of building reliable, scalable, and fault-tolerant systems.
  • Strong expertise in platform and API design, including RESTful APIs, GraphQL, SDKs, and reusable platform abstractions.
  • Deep understanding of authentication protocols and security practices, including OAuth, API keys, JWT, and secure integration patterns.
  • Hands-on experience building resilient data integrations with external systems such as cloud providers, HRIS platforms, identity providers, or code repositories.
  • Strong knowledge of integration reliability patterns, including rate limiting, retries, idempotency, webhooks, and schema drift management.
  • Demonstrated ability to design systems for scale, reliability, observability, and diverse failure modes, with a proactive approach to identifying technical risks.
  • Experience leading complex technical projects and influencing architectural decisions across multiple teams.
  • Proven ability to mentor engineers, establish engineering standards, and act as a technical multiplier for the broader team.
  • Strong experience with backend technologies such Node.js and TypeScript, with familiarity with React and modern software development practices.
  • Experience working with developer tooling, CI/CD, and software development lifecycle optimization.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts and build alignment across teams.
  • Curiosity and sound judgment when adopting AI tools to improve engineering workflows responsibly.
  • Startup, greenfield, multi-region, government deployment, security, or compliance experience is a plus.
Benefits:
  • Industry-competitive salary and equity.
  • 100% company-covered medical, dental, and vision benefits, including dependent coverage.
  • Pension contribution.
  • 16 weeks of paid parental leave for all new parents.
  • Health and wellness stipend.
  • Remote workspace, internet, and cellphone stipend.
  • Flexible working hours and location.
  • 21 days of vacation time.
  • 80 hours of sick leave.
  • 11 company-paid holidays.
  • Virtual team-building activities, lunch-and-learns, and company-wide events.
  • Access to offices in San Francisco, New York City, London, Dublin, Tel Aviv, and Sydney.
