Job summary

S.I. Systems Ltd. is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer (Python) to help build and scale an AI-powered supply chain platform for a Canada-wide retailer.

This remote role collaborates with AI and frontend teams to design, develop, and deploy backend services and APIs that power cloud-native solutions. You will design scalable backend architectures, integrate databases, and ensure production-ready REST APIs using Python and FastAPI, with containerised deployments on Docker and Kubernetes.

Qualifications

• Proven backend development experience with Python.
• Experience designing, developing, and integrating REST APIs.
• Strong database integration experience and data access patterns.
• Experience with containerised environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Production-grade backend service development experience.
• GCP experience preferred; AWS/Azure acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services and REST APIs using Python.

Working alongside AI and Frontend Engineers, you will play a key role in designing, developing and implementing the backend services and APIs that power the platform.

This is an opportunity to contribute to a new technology initiative involving modern cloud-native architecture and AI-driven applications. We are looking for a strong Python developer with experience building scalable backend services, integrating databases and developing production-ready REST APIs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop and maintain scalable backend services and REST APIs using Python.
• Build and integrate APIs using FastAPI, supporting the wider AI-powered supply chain platform.
• Develop and maintain database integrations, ensuring reliable data access and efficient backend processing.
