Job summary

StructureCraft Inc. is seeking a Senior Associate to lead teams of project engineers and drafter professionals in delivering innovative timber and structural engineering solutions.

You will collaborate with architects and our detailing and project management teams to create efficient designs for mass timber and other structures. The role involves leading multiple design teams, client meetings, and field engagements across North America and Europe, with opportunities to mentor junior engineers

Qualifications

  • Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Civil Engineering (or related field).
  • At least 12 years as a structural engineer, with minimum 5 years in timber engineering.
  • PE, P.Eng., MIStructE, SE are assets.
  • Experience leading the design of large building projects with architects and clients.
  • Knowledge of Canadian, American, and European codes is an asset.
  • Experience with Finite Element software and 3D modelling tools.

Responsibilities

  • Concept scheming and sketching with architects and designers.
  • Lead and manage multiple teams of engineers, drafters, and designers; perform QC with fabrication teams.
  • Lead involvement in client meetings (in-person/remote) and develop design solutions.
  • Provide engineering reports and structural advice; develop modifications as needed.
  • Perform concept and detailed design including calculations and FEM modelling.
  • Coordinate with project management, shop, and site teams to meet timelines and budgets.
  • Visit mass timber sites across North America for field reviews with install teams.
  • Provide material and cost estimates for budgets and procurement.

THEROLE:
  • Concept scheming and sketching to create innovative structural solutions with architects and designers.
  • Leading and managing multiple teams of project engineers, drafters and designers, and performing quality control with assembly and fabrication teams.
  • Leading involvement in client meetings (in-person and remote) and the facilitation of creative solutions to design issues and challenges.
  • Providing engineering reports to clients, structural advice on the construction and design of projects and devising modifications as necessary.
  • Performing concept level and detailed structural design and detailing, including calculations, sketches, and static/dynamic finite element modelling in both pre construction and construction phases, under the mentorship of the Engineering Manager.
  • Liaising with internal project management, shop, and site teams to ensure projects are delivered on time and budget, and meet fabrication and erection constraints.
  • Visiting mass timber project sites across North America (remote or in-person when possible) to conduct field reviews and work with our install team on the ground at each project.
  • Reviewing project requirements to provide estimates on quantities and costs of materials, equipment and labor and input on construction and development budgets.
  • Mentoring junior structural engineers and developing our technical knowledge base.
  • Providing engineering reports to clients and structural advice on the construction and design of projects and devising modifications as necessary.
  • Presentation and communication at conferences, lunch & learns, and seminars across North America.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • Master’sor DoctorateDegree in Civil Engineering (or a related Engineering Degree).
  • At least12years of experience working as structural engineer (minimum 5years of experience in timber engineering).Experience with seismic design in Canada/USA or abroadis an asset.
  • PE, P.Eng., orMIStructE.SE is an asset.
  • Experience leading the design of largebuildingprojects, working with architects and clients to achieve pragmatic and cost-effective solutions.
  • Knowledge and use of Canadian, American, and European codes an asset.
  • Experience with Finite Element software (SAP2000, R-FEM, ETABS), and significant experience with Excel (performing calculations). Experience working with 3D modelling software such as Rhino/Grasshopper/AutoCADisan asset.
  • Strong understanding of engineering fundamentals.
