Job description

Clyde & Co Canada is hiring a senior associate lawyer based in Western Canada (Vancouver, Calgary or Winnipeg) with experience in insurance coverage and monitoring. The role may involve pleading coverage matters in court and providing coverage advice to insurers on various policies (CGL, wrap, PI, cyber product liability, recall, D&O, crime, etc.). The position may be hybrid or fully remote.

Key Responsibilities
  • Review and analyze coverage under various policies to advise insurer clients.
  • Undertake coverage investigations and conduct coverage disputes.
  • Represent insurer clients in the management of coverage matters in Canada.
  • Act as monitoring counsel where defense has been retained but coverage remains critical.
  • Recommend and appoint defense lawyers to act under litigation management direction.
  • Coordinate and manage information from defense lawyers and clients.
  • Maintain relationships with insurers.
  • Participate in mediation sessions as an insurer representative.
  • Conduct research and provide legal analysis.
  • Attend Canadian Bar Association events for professional and business development.
  • Meet other related business needs or priorities as they arise.
Essential Skills & Experience
  • Graduate from a recognized university/common law school and qualified to practice law in British Columbia, Alberta or Manitoba (member in good standing with the provincial Law Society).
  • Five to seven years post‑qualification experience in private practice or in‑house focusing on insurance coverage analysis.
  • Experience in general insurance and professional indemnity.
  • Excellent legal writing and communication skills.
  • Sound judgment and legal reasoning, strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to develop strategies, present plans clearly and communicate instructions rigorously.
  • Proven advocacy talent.
  • High integrity and intellectual rigor.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and interest in building client relationships.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Salary

$170,000 to $185,000, based on experience and qualifications, in accordance with BC’s Pay Transparency Act.
