Overview
Merrick & Company is seeking an experienced Lead Architect with strong leadership skills, able to lead an architectural team and to provide mentorship to junior and intermediate level intern architects. Knowledge of containment laboratory design is an advantage.
Position requires the candidate to work ‘in-person’ from the Ottawa office (currently hybrid, subject to change).
Salary range for this position is $108,000.00 - $140,000.00 CAN. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
Responsibilities
- Lead an architectural team and provide mentorship to junior and intermediate level intern architects; act as supervisory architect to help achieve architectural licensing with the Ontario Association of Architects (OAA) and/or other provinces as required.
- Engage in all aspects of design including planning, programming, schematic design, production of construction documents (drawings and specifications), and construction/contract administration.
- Ensure execution of projects with attention to quality control, schedules, and coordination with technical leads, project directors, and the project management team; may include profit and loss accountability and accurate effort estimation for proposals and project work.
- Promote business development capabilities by leveraging personal contacts, presenting at conferences, and engaging with industry networks.
- Communicate effectively with clients and staff, and articulate design concepts and project progress clearly.
Required Qualifications
- Fifteen (15) years of experience in complex architectural design (containment laboratory experience is an advantage).
- Licensed in the Province of Ontario with the OAA. Licensing with other Canadian provinces is an advantage.
- Experience as a Lead Architect for projects and teams, providing leadership and mentorship to intern architects.
- Proficiency in BIM software, AutoCAD, and Bluebeam/Adobe.
- Ability to travel; must be a Canadian permanent resident (citizenship preferred) and possess a current passport; some international travel anticipated.
