Job summary

Stantec in Vancouver, BC is seeking a Senior Architect to lead medium- to large-scale projects across commercial, multi-family residential, mixed-use, institutional, and industrial sectors. The role spans from concept through occupancy, with collaboration across US and Canada teams.

You will mentor junior staff, manage budgets and schedules, and ensure design aligns with client goals, sustainability targets, and codes.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 7 years of architecture experience.
• Degree in Architecture and licensed with AIBC.
• Strong experience delivering mid- to large-scale projects across sectors.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Manage medium to large scale projects from inception to occupancy.
• Lead interviews to win new work.
• Plan, organize and direct work to meet client milestones.
• Ensure project budgets, schedules, and design intent are achieved.
• Lead consultant coordination meetings and stakeholder reviews.
• Mentor junior/intermediate staff and coordinate project teams.
• Oversee document corrections and ensure proper project documentation.

Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a Senior Architect to join our team in Vancouver, British Columbia. The ideal candidate to be proficient in all phases of practice from project conception through to occupancy. Candidate to have extensive experience delivering mid‑ to large‑scale projects across a wide range of sectors, including commercial developments, multi‑family residential high‑rises, mixed‑use, institutional, and/or industrial buildings. Your Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for managing medium to large scale projects.
• Effectively participates and helps to win work in interviews for potential projects.
• Plans, organizes, and directs the work throughout the life of the project to successfully deliver the project to the client.
• Keeps the Principal in Charge informed of progress on project expectations, deadlines, and deliverables and understands the limits of the decision‑making responsibilities of the role and respects the boundaries of the Principal in Charge’s responsibilities.
• Leads the client and project team to assure that the project design meets the client budget, schedule, program, and design intent.
• Lead consultant coordination meetings.
• Develop and manage project budget, schedule, and overall work plan to realize target financial performance.
• Mentors junior/intermediate staff and motivates/direct project Consultants.
• Assures that Project Management Framework tasks are timely completed and properly documented.
• Leads project coordination and owner/site meetings with internal team members and/or external consultants, owner and contractor and sub-contractors.

Capabilities and Credentials

• Extensive project experience and can provide support on request for proposals.
• Experience with various delivery models including Modified Design Build, Design Build, and/or Integrated Project Delivery would be an asset.
• Capable of simultaneously supporting one or more Principal’s in Charge on multiple projects.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent understanding of accessibility codes, life‑safety codes, building construction systems, means and methods, materials, and industry associated standards.
• Able to maintain and forward the development of the design concept.
• Offers and supports creative technical design and detailing decisions that are in line with project goals and understands their impact on cost, construction, sustainability, and other factors.
• Understands and leads the integration of code, zoning, market specific best practices and other issues into the project.
• Adheres to established project sustainability requirements.
• Has the ability to follow verbal and written instructions to revise, develop and produce plans, elevations, and details appropriately.
• Reviews, marks‑up and delivers document corrections to team for implementation.
• Ability to distribute work to project team.
• Proactively takes appropriate action without requiring continued direction or guidance.
• Effectively manages multiple deadlines and priorities.
• Team player with the client, entire project team and contractor.
• Requires understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, Revit, AutoCAD; Prefer experience with Adobe, Creative Suite, Newforma, Rhino, SketchUP.

Education and Experience

• A minimum of 7 years of experience.
• Degree in Architecture and holds an Architecture License with AIBC

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Range

• Locations in Lower Mainland - BC, GTA & Ottawa Ontario-$104,600.00 - $157,000.00 Annually
