Job summary

SLR Consulting is seeking an Aquatic Ecologist (Intermediate to Senior) to join our Ecology and Biodiversity team in British Columbia. You will support mining and infrastructure projects with surface water quality expertise, project management, and client/stakeholder liaison.

You will mentor junior staff, lead field programs, analyze data, prepare reports, and help expand SLR’s aquatic ecology presence across BC.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Ecology, or Natural Sciences; Master's is a plus.
• 7–10+ years in ecological sciences, with 3+ years in consulting.
• Registered or eligible to be registered as an RPBio.
• Experience in surface water and sediment quality investigations and assessments.
• CABIN and electrofishing certification is an asset.
• Experience in environmental assessment and oversight of large infrastructure projects; mining a plus.
• Proficiency with data analysis and ecological data interpretation.
• Strong technical writing and reporting skills.
• Experience with Canadian permitting processes.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Lead full project lifecycle: proposals, scope development, scheduling, budgeting, and delivery.
• Mentor junior staff and coordinate field teams; ensure safe, high-quality field operations.
• Lead aquatic field programs; collect water/sediment samples and benthic data.
• Analyze field data and write high-quality technical reports.
• Navigate federal, provincial, and municipal regulatory frameworks.
• Support client and stakeholder communication and develop new opportunities.
• Grow SLR’s aquatic ecology presence across British Columbia.
