Job Summary

Dalhousie Financial Services strives to provide the highest quality financial services and information to ensure the effective stewardship of University assets to the benefit of students and scholarly activities. Financial Services is a core service unit of the University, providing services in areas of financial accounting, budgeting, procurement, payroll, cash management, and financial systems and policies. Reporting to the Senior Director, Budgets and Financial Analysis, the Senior Analyst, Financial Modelling and Analytics will transform financial data into actionable insights that support strategic planning, operational efficiency and fiscal accountability across the university.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with finance and project teams to define data and reporting requirements for projects, operational and strategic initiatives.
  • Apply advanced analytics and machine learning techniques to extract insights from complex financial data sets.
  • Coordinate with cross functional teams to align financial data initiatives with institutional goals.
  • Clearly communicate methodologies and decision logic behind models to promote transparency.
  • Share knowledge and collaborate with team members to enhance financial services capabilities through automation and process efficiency.
  • Train financial services colleagues on Power BI and other analytic tools and promote data literacy across the university.
Note

The successful applicant will be eligible for hybrid work (combination of in-person work on campus and remote work from within Nova Scotia) as agreed by all parties based on operational requirements and university guidelines.

Required Qualifications
  • Undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, business analytics or related field with five years of experience in financial analysis, business intelligence, or budgeting (or an equivalent combination of training and experience).
  • Advanced proficiency in power BI (DAX, Power Query and data modelling).
  • Ability to utilize initiative an independent judgment in a complex environment.
  • Strong interpersonal and written slash verbal communication skills.
  • Flexible and creative problem solving abilities.
  • Experience working in a complex environment with large and complex data sets.
Assets
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as Banner, Workday, Oracle.
  • Experience with Python, SQL, Excel, and other data tools.
