Job summary

AECOM is seeking a Senior Air Quality Consultant to support advanced ambient air quality studies and regulatory compliance projects. The role focuses on dispersion modeling (AERMOD/CALPUFF/CAL3QHCR), emissions estimation, and permit support across energy and other sectors.

You will mentor junior staff, lead proposals, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver compliant, high-quality reports and action plans.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in air quality analysis, dispersion modeling, project management, and environmental compliance OR equivalent.
  • Master’s degree and 15+ years of experience are preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead business development and proposal efforts with technical expertise.
  • Apply air quality regulatory programs and manage permit components.
  • Prepare air quality assessment reports and manage dispersion modeling.
  • Liaise with regulators for submissions and permit applications.

Job Description

AECOM is seeking an experienced Senior Air Quality Consultant to support advanced ambient air quality studies and regulatory compliance projects. The selected candidate will contribute expertise in air dispersion modeling, emissions management, and permitting for clients across multiple sectors, while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to solve complex air quality challenges.

Key Responsibilities
Business Development
  • Lead business development and proposal efforts using strong technical expertise and industry contacts, particularly in the energy and oil & gas sectors.
Compliance (Permitting, NPRI, GHG, AEIR, etc.)
  • Apply working knowledge of relevant air quality regulatory programs, guidelines, and best practices.
  • Manage air quality assessment components of permits and environmental assessments.
  • Liaise with provincial and federal regulators for submissions and permit applications.
Air Emission Inventory & Dispersion Modeling
  • Prepare high-quality air quality assessment reports for permits and environmental assessments.
  • Manage dispersion modeling using AERMOD, CALPUFF, and CAL3QHCR.
  • Estimate emissions (GHG, CACs, and other pollutants) using site data, emission factors, and US EPA MOVES.
  • Interpret modeling results and compare them with applicable regulations.
Ambient Air Monitoring
  • Oversee installation, maintenance, and decommissioning of monitoring equipment.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and labs for performance checks and calibration.
  • Manage data collection, troubleshoot issues, and ensure data quality.
  • Lead development of air quality monitoring and management plans.
Research & Technical Expertise
  • Investigate industrial processes and emissions in sectors such as oil and gas, transportation, and chemicals.
  • Recommend air pollution control measures and compliance strategies.
Collaboration & Process Optimization
  • Work closely with internal teams and clients to meet project objectives.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to business development initiatives.
  • Support automation of data workflows using tools such as Python or R.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in air quality analysis, dispersion modeling, project management, technical writing, proposal preparation, and environmental compliance OR demonstrated equivalency of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of experience in air quality analysis, including advanced dispersion modeling.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong leadership skills and experience mentoring junior team members.
  • Experience in preparing regulatory approvals, reports, and permits.
  • Familiarity with ambient air monitoring systems, including installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficiency in Python or R for workflow automation.
  • Experience supporting business development and proposal preparation in environmental consulting, ideally within the energy or oil & gas sectors.
