Fable is seeking a highly motivated Senior AI Engineer to lead backend and AI-powered product initiatives in a remote-first setting with periodic Toronto office collaboration. You will own end-to-end solutions, architect scalable systems, and collaborate with product and design teams to deliver impact at scale.
The role emphasizes AI integration, LLM workflows, and agentic automation, with a strong emphasis on accessibility and social impact.
This is a high-impact senior IC role at a mission-driven accessibility tech startup with notable enterprise clients (Walmart, Slack, Shopify) and strong third-party validation (Forbes, Fast Company, UN Zero Project). The company appears to be in a growth/scaling stage — an ideal environment for engineers who want broad ownership and visible impact.
Compensation context: The CAD $130k–$150k range is competitive for a senior engineer in Toronto, sitting at or slightly below the top of the Toronto market for this level (typical senior backend range: CAD $120k–$160k). Engineers at FAANG-adjacent companies may earn more, but the mission focus and equity (stock options) add meaningful upside.
Skills this role develops — all in high demand:
Green flags:
Watch for: The "deliver with urgency" and "fast-moving environment" language suggests a demanding pace. This is a startup-speed culture, not a relaxed enterprise environment. Candidates who thrive here are self-directed and comfortable with ambiguity.
