Job summary

Desjardins Group seeks a senior internal audit advisor specializing in data to lead audits on governance, management and valorization of data. You will evaluate data architectures, assess controls across data platforms, and provide independent assurance on risk and governance for large strategic initiatives.

The role emphasizes senior influence, rigour and the ability to translate complex data issues into actionable recommendations for Desjardins’ internal governance frameworks and regulatory

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, data engineering or a related field.
• Experience with data lakes, data warehouses, modern data platforms and cloud solutions.
• Experience managing data integrations and pipelines (API, ETL/ELT, etc.).
• Knowledge of data governance concepts and frameworks (DAMA/DCAM)

Responsibilities

• Conduct audit mandates covering data governance, quality, life cycle management, traceability, confidentiality, integrity and availability.
• Advise partners on identifying, assessing and positioning data-related risks in critical projects.
• Assess effectiveness of control mechanisms for data collection, use, transformation, retention and destruction.
• Present results to managers and influence action plans for governance and risk improvements.

Job description

As a senior internal audit advisor specializing in data, you participate in audit activities related to data governance, management and valorization processes, particularly for large strategic, technological and cross-sector initiatives related to data. In this role, you create value by providing the organization with independent assurance on the control of operations, risk management, and control and governance processes. You lead and influence audit mandates related to data governance, management and valorization. You also serve as an expert in evaluating data architectures and the effectiveness of controls in place for technological capabilities and data platforms. You help develop value-added recommendations for Desjardins that reflect internal frameworks, regulatory requirements and market best practices.

• Conduct audit mandates covering data governance, quality, life cycle management, traceability, confidentiality, integrity and availability, artificial intelligence governance and use, etc.
• Advise and support partners and colleagues in identifying, assessing and positioning data-related risks, particularly within the context of critical projects, technological transformations or strategic initiatives
• Assess the effectiveness of the control mechanisms surrounding the collection, use, transformation, retention, sharing and destruction of data
• Assess the compliance of data governance, management and valorization practices with internal governance documents, regulatory requirements and market best practices
• Contribute to the analysis of data environments, flows, repositories, analytical tools and accountability mechanisms
• Formulate clear, relevant, value-added findings and recommendations to strengthen governance, risk management and control effectiveness
• Present results to the managers responsible for audited activities, and influence others in the implementation of realistic, lasting and impactful action plans

What we bring to the table

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, data engineering or a related field
• A minimum of six years of relevant experience, for example in data architecture or data governance
• Please note that other combinations of qualifications and relevant experience may be considered
• Experience with data lakes, data warehouses, modern data platforms and cloud solutions
• Experience managing data integrations and pipelines (API, ETL/ELT, etc.)
• Experience analyzing complex processes, explaining technical issues in simple terms, and making clear, pragmatic, value-added recommendations
• Experience in executive writing and presenting CDMP, DAMA, DCAM or other relevant certification related to data governance or data management (obtained or in progress)
• Knowledge of French is required
• Intermediate knowledge of English due to the nature of the duties or work tools or because the position involves interactions with English-speaking partners, members and/or clients
• Expertise in modern data architecture models and DataMesh
• Advanced knowledge of data governance concepts, including data quality, master data, metadata and reference data, traceability and data lifecycle management
• Advanced knowledge of data reference frameworks, such as DAMA or DCAM
• Knowledge of data-related risks, including confidentiality, integrity, availability, the protection of personal information and the responsible use of data
• Knowledge of the frameworks and best practices applicable to data risk management
• Knowledge of the three lines of defence model
