Trillium Rail Partners (TRP) is a consortium of Amico Major Projects, Alberici Constructors, and Acciona Infrastructure Canada, working closely with Metrolinx to deliver the Stations, Rail, and Systems (SRS) package for the Eglinton Crosstown West Extension (ECWE), a transformative 9.2 km expansion of Toronto's light rail network. The ECWE will bring the Eglinton Crosstown LRT another 9.2 kilometres farther west, creating a continuous rapid transit line from the east end of Toronto into Mississauga. The Stations, Rail, and Systems (SRS) package encompasses the design, construction, integration, and commissioning of key project components.

Position Overview

TRP has a current vacancy for a Senior Accounts Payable/Project Accountant that will provide hands-on accounting and finance operations support to the Finance and Admin Lead. The role focuses on account reconciliations, affiliate and partner account tracking, investigation and resolution of accounting and cost issues, and ongoing audit support, helping maintain accurate financial records and reliable project cost reporting. The role maintains audit-ready reconciliations and supporting records throughout the year, coordinates outstanding documentation and follow-up actions, and supports improvements to internal controls and accounting procedures. Technical accounting conclusions and matters requiring management approval are escalated to the Finance and Admin Lead.

Key Responsibilities
General Finance Support
  • Provide hands-on support to the Finance and Admin Lead across day-to-day finance activities, information requests, and issue resolution. Investigate discrepancies, coordinate corrective actions with relevant teams, and track outstanding matters through to resolution, escalating issues and competing priorities as needed.
  • Prepare and maintain financial schedules, reconciliations, and supporting records for management review, reporting, and month-end support. Investigate differences, follow up on aged outstanding items, and coordinate required adjustments with the accounting team.
  • Maintain affiliate and partner tracking schedules covering invoices, recharges, payments, balances, and outstanding items. Reconcile schedules to available financial and counterparty records, investigate differences, and follow up on missing documentation or unresolved matters. Support billing and receivables follow-up as assigned by the Finance and Admin Lead.
Accounts Payable Backup Support
  • Provide backup coverage to the accounts payable team during absences, peak workloads, and urgent processing needs. Support invoice review and processing, coding checks, purchase order matching, and approval follow-up in accordance with established procedures and assigned access.
  • Own the end-to-end tracking and coordination of all supporting documentation provided to the client for monthly cost-plus billings. Maintain a complete, traceable register linking billed costs to supporting records and tracking submission dates, client queries, outstanding requirements, and resolution status. Coordinate with relevant teams (procurement, subcontract, cost control, AP) to obtain missing evidence, retain a clear record of all submissions and responses, and follow outstanding items through to closure, escalating delays or unresolved issues to the Finance and Admin Lead.
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis, tracking reports, documentation, and finance-related administrative support as assigned by the Finance and Admin Lead. Coordinate information requests across teams, maintain clear records of actions and decisions, and support practical improvements to finance and AP workflows.
Compliance & Audit Support
  • Coordinate ongoing internal and external audit requests under the direction of the Finance and Admin Lead. Prepare audit schedules, reconciliations, cost breakdowns, transaction listings, and supporting documentation; maintain a request tracker; and follow up with relevant teams to resolve missing evidence and outstanding queries within agreed deadlines.
  • Perform periodic reviews of project transactions to assess compliance with approval limits, delegated authorities, procurement procedures, and financial control requirements.
  • Support the implementation of improved internal controls, standard operating procedures, and documentation requirements to reduce audit findings and recurring control deficiencies.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in accounting or finance operations, including hands-on reconciliations, month-end support, transaction investigation, and audit documentation. Relevant backgrounds may include general accounting, accounts payable supervision, or accounting operations. Construction or engineering industry experience is an asset.
  • Strong working knowledge of general accounting, account reconciliations, accruals, accounts payable processes, and internal controls. Familiarity with IFRS and construction accounting is an asset.
  • Experience with ERP and project financial systems
  • Ability to investigate discrepancies across financial records, identify underlying causes, document conclusions, and follow issues through to resolution with accuracy and attention to detail. Able to manage recurring reconciliations alongside urgent audit requests and changing priorities.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to obtain supporting information from cross-functional teams, explain reconciliation differences, coordinate corrective actions, and elevate unresolved issues to the Finance and Admin Lead.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including reconciliations, data analysis, and financial reporting.
