Job summary

MNP is a leading Canadian national accounting, tax and business advisory firm seeking a Senior Accountant in its Tax team to design customized tax strategies within a complex regulatory framework. You’ll act as a trusted advisor delivering compliant and efficient solutions to clients.

The role involves leading engagements, setting up client files, evaluating processes, preparing analyses and presentations, and mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in commerce or business administration (accounting or finance major is preferred).
• Completion of, or working towards, a CPA designation; CFE completion and practical experience pursued will be considered.
• 2 to 4 years of relevant public accounting or tax experience.
• Working knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act.

Responsibilities

• Responsible for tax reorganizations such as capital dividend elections, section 85 rollovers, purifications, and corporation reorganization engagements including preparing corresponding tax elections.
• Set up files for new clients and newly incorporated businesses.
• Evaluate existing business processes and policies and advise on policy and tax changes; develop proactive tax strategies.
• Identify issues and errors, investigate discrepancies, and discuss resolutions with managers or engagement partners.
• Correspond with clients and government agencies to address client tax compliance issues.
• Prepare correspondence, technical reports, client summaries and presentations outlining engagement findings.
• Lead engagement teams, coaching and mentoring junior team members.
• Contribute to development of new ideas to improve work processes.
• Participate in business development initiatives and identify new opportunities.
• Maintain flexibility to travel, as necessary.

• Lead engagement teams, developing effective relationships with clients while coaching and mentoring junior team members
• Contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve work processes
• Participate in business development initiatives and identify new business opportunities
• Maintain flexibility to travel, as necessary

Skills and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in commerce or business administration (accounting or finance major is preferred)
• Completion of, or working towards, a CPA designation; completion of CFE examination and working towards relevant practical experience requirements will also be considered
• 2 to 4 years of relevant public accounting or tax experience
• Working knowledge of the Canadian Income Tax Act
• Experience in and/or understanding of Agriculture business is considered an asset
• Experience working with accounting and tax software
