Job Title: Senior Accountant (Public Accounting)

Location: Calgary

Base Salary: $70,000 - $95,000 per year (Commensurate with experience)

Position Overview

Our client, a respected and well-established mid‑sized Public Accounting firm, is seeking a collaborative and technically skilled Senior Accountant to join its growing team. This is a full‑time, permanent opportunity for a dedicated professional who are eager to contribute and grow professionally.

The Senior Accountant will be instrumental in the execution of the full assurance and tax cycle for a diverse portfolio of owner‑managed private businesses and high‑net‑worth individuals, ensuring operational excellence and technical accuracy.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will work closely with Partners and staff, enjoying a clear pathway for professional development and career advancement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently prepare a working paper file in Caseware for compilation engagements
  • Preparation of T2 corporate tax returns, T1 personal tax returns, T3 Trust returns, T5013 Statement of Partnership income, T5's and T4's
  • Identify and correct accounting/tax errors for both corporate and personal tax clients
  • Bookkeeping for various clients including cash receipts, cash disbursements, bank reconciliations, GST/HST reports
  • Provides assistance to other staff members with queries and training when possible, providing support as a team leader and mentor
  • Assist partners with detailed reviews of files for staff members, providing feedback and training on areas to junior staff where support is needed
  • Work closely with partners and staff to ensure firm timelines for file budgets, turnarounds, and other expectations are being met
Job Qualifications
  • A minimum of two years (2+) of recent, dedicated experience within a Canadian Public Accounting firm is required.
  • Post‑secondary education in Accounting or Finance is required; Individuals who have completed the CPA designation or who are not pursuing the CPA is preferred — at this time there is no further capacity to take on additional students
  • Expert working knowledge of CaseWare, CaseView, and Tax Cycle (or equivalent professional accounting/tax software).
  • High proficiency with MS Office Suite, particularly MS Excel and Word.
  • Solid working knowledge of key client accounting software: Sage 50, QuickBooks (Desktop and Online). Knowledge of Xero is a strong asset.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple tasks, complex files, and competing deadlines efficiently.
  • Strong communication skills (both verbal and written) suitable for both client and internal interactions.
