Job summary

Tangent Design Engineering in Calgary is seeking a Senior Accountant to advance ownership of core accounting tasks, support project accounting, and drive financial visibility. You will collaborate with project teams to improve processes and financial reporting, while progressing toward the CPA designation.

The role emphasizes month-end close, reconciliations, budgeting, forecasting, and project profitability within a dynamic engineering environment.

Qualifications

• Approximately 3 to 6 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Degree or diploma in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
• Current enrolment in, or active progression toward, the CPA designation.
• Hands-on experience with month-end close, journal entries, reconciliations, and general ledger accounting.
• Experience with financial reporting, variance analysis, budgeting and forecasting.
• Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, and cash flow processes.

Responsibilities

• Support and increasingly own month-end and year-end close activities, including journal entries, invoicing, accruals, reconciliations, consolidations and supporting schedules.
• Prepare financial reports and support variance analysis for leadership.
• Complete balance sheet, bank, credit card, and general ledger reconciliations.
• Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, collections, and cash flow processes.
• Coordinate budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Support project accounting, including project costing, labour allocation, work in progress, invoicing, margins, inventory counts and project financial performance.
• Work with project managers and operational leaders to improve the accuracy and usefulness of project financial information.
• Prepare monthly financial and operational executive updates to senior management.
• Support payroll-related accounting, benefits reconciliations, and other employee-related financial transactions.
• Prepare year-end working papers and support external accounting, audit, and tax requirements.
• Maintain accurate financial records and appropriate financial controls.
• Identify opportunities to streamline, automate, and improve accounting and finance processes.
• Take on increasing responsibility as your experience and CPA studies progress.
