Job summary

Hydron Energy Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant / Controller to join our growing team. This is a hands-on role responsible for overseeing day-to-day accounting activities while ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a growing company environment and will independently manage accounting priorities, deadlines, and reporting requirements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation or progress toward CPA is preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably including senior accounting or controller-level roles.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting practices and financial reporting.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online.
  • Experience with payroll, AP/AR, bank reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounting activities including AP, AR, general ledger and reconciliations.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Maintain QuickBooks Online records and ensure accurate financial data.
  • Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Prepare cash flow reports and assist with budgeting and forecasting.
  • Oversee payroll accounting and reconciliations.
  • Manage CAD and USD accounts and foreign currency transactions.
  • Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, and government agencies.
  • Support government funding, grants, and project-related financial reporting.
  • Track project expenses and proper cost allocation.
  • Assist management with financial analysis and decision-making.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting, tax, and statutory reporting.
  • Improve accounting processes and internal controls as the company grows.
  • Support and oversee bookkeeping as needed.

About the Role

Hydron Energy Inc. is seeking an experienced Senior Accountant / Controller to join our growing team. This is a hands-on accounting role responsible for overseeing the company’s day-to-day accounting activities while ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, compliance, and financial controls.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working in a growing company environment and will be able to independently manage accounting priorities, deadlines, and reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee day-to-day accounting activities, including AP, AR, general ledger, and bank reconciliations
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports
  • Maintain accurate accounting records in QuickBooks Online (QBO)
  • Manage month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Prepare cash flow reports and assist with budgeting and forecasting
  • Oversee payroll-related accounting and reconciliations
  • Manage CAD and USD accounts and foreign-currency transactions
  • Maintain appropriate accounting controls, documentation, and supporting schedules
  • Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, government agencies, and other financial partners as required
  • Support government funding, grant, and project-related financial reporting
  • Track project expenses and ensure costs are properly allocated
  • Assist management with financial analysis and reporting for decision-making
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting, tax, and statutory reporting requirements
  • Improve accounting processes and internal financial controls as the company continues to grow
  • Support and oversee bookkeeping activities as required
  • Perform other accounting and financial duties as needed
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • CPA designation or progress toward a CPA designation is preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably including experience in a senior accounting or controller-level role
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian accounting practices and financial reporting
  • Strong experience with QuickBooks Online
  • Experience with payroll, AP/AR, bank reconciliations, and financial statement preparation
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Experience with government funding, grants, or project-based accounting is an asset
  • Experience working in a growing technology, engineering, manufacturing, or clean-tech company is an asset
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
