Job summary

Brookfield Renewable is seeking a Senior Accountant of Consolidations for a 12-month contract. You will manage the quarterly close cycle, perform intercompany eliminations, and support internal and external stakeholders with consolidation reporting and analyses.

The role requires 4+ years of full-cycle accounting experience, strong IFRS/US GAAP knowledge, and proficiency in consolidation tools like OneStream and D365.

Qualifications

• 4+ years’ experience performing full-cycle accounting.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent.
• CPA designation or scheduled to take CFE within the next 12 months preferred but not required.
• Experience with consolidation accounting in a public company (US/Canada) is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of assigned consolidation processes and act as primary contact for stakeholders outside the department.
• Perform complex variance analysis related to consolidation and journal entries.
• Prepare and document analyses for complex accounting issues and present findings to stakeholders.
• Prepare/Review quarterly and annual consolidation reporting packages, including intercompany eliminations and cash flow statements.
• Set manual foreign currency rates for key accounts to ensure proper elimination in the consolidation tool.
• Support internal audit and SOX 404 controls as part of the close cycle.
• Contribute to process improvement initiatives focused on automation and reducing manual errors.

About the Role

As a Senior Accountant of Consolidations, under our Business Services Group, you will be accountable for aspects of the accounting consolidation quarterly close cycle, ensuring accurate financial close within tight deadlines. In this role, you will regularly collaborate with members of Brookfield’s Business Services Group Finance Team and other internal stakeholders, allowing you to build strong networks within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of assigned processes, acting as a primary point of contact for those outside the department; develop and maintain strong relationships with all internal stakeholders across the organization;
• Perform complex variance analysis face statement groupings;
• Collaborate with a team of Accountants, sharing knowledge and experience to improve the financial close process;
• Prepare and document analysis for complex accounting issues, present the findings and conclusions, including the implementation plan to the Accounting group, as well as impacted stakeholders;
• Prepare or analyze financial-related quarterly reporting packages for internal and external stakeholders, incl. variance analysis, cash flow statement, etc.;
• Set manual foreign currency rates key accounts to ensure proper elimination within the consolidation tool;
• Review of intercompany balances at the consolidated platform level to identify any breaks, work with other accounting groups to resolve issues for consolidation;
• Preparation journal entries and account reconciliations to ensure timely and accurate monthly financial close, prepare timely and accurate journal entries as required;
• Prepare/Review PPE additions and disposals and maintain CWIP and fixed asset schedules.
• Work directly with the audit team to provide quarterly and year-end audit support;
• Actively contribute (i.e., development and implementation) to continued process improvement initiatives focused on automation, streamlining, internal controls (SOX 404), and reducing the risk of human error;
• Support the Manager, Accounting in various ad-hoc requests and special projects.
• Provide ad hoc support and/or analysis to other groups within Brookfield Renewable;
• Assist in the integration of new assets/acquisitions into the consolidated accounting and reporting process

Knowledge and Experience Required

• 4+ years’ experience performing full-cycle accounting;
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or equivalent in relevant work experience;
• CPA designation or scheduled to take CFE within the next 12 months preferred but not required;
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizations skills;
• Strong time-management skills and ability to multi-task;
• Attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines, particularly around month and quarter end close;
• Flexibility to work additional hours at quarter end or during peak periods;
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to use sound judgment;
• Ability to manage and prioritize competing responsibilities;
• Ability to work as part of a team and strong communication skills are required;
• Thrives in a team-based and dynamic environment.
• Experience with Financial Systems such OneStream and D365 will be an asset;
• Demonstrated knowledge of accounting principles (IFRS and US GAAP is an asset);
• Solid MS Excel skills (including vlookup and pivot tables) with the ability to learn new systems quickly;
• Experience in working in a public listed companies (in US or Canada) will be considered an asset;
• Experience working with concepts of consolidation accounting
