Overview

HFI is a manufacturer of military and consumer pyrotechnic devices. We currently make devices that smoke, flare or make noise. Our products are manufactured in the Edwardsburg Cardinal area. We are a company that focuses on the process of continuous improvement through lean manufacturing concepts. HFI is on the ascent, and we are looking for a Senior Accountant / Accounting Leader to help support the expansion of our business.

Role: Senior Accountant / Accounting Leader

Member of: Finance Team

Reports to: Director of Finance

Schedule: Full Time (Days); 8-hour shift; 8 am – 4:30 pm

Status: Existing Position (Currently Vacant)

Wage: 75,000 – 90,000 depending on experience

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead daily accounting operations including AP, AR, and GL entries.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes with complete, accurate and timely financial statements.
  • Maintain and improve standard costing models; analyze variances and support continuous improvement.
  • Support all inventory accounting, including reconciliations, adjustments, cycle counts, and physical inventory support.
  • Partner with manufacturing and supply chain teams to understand cost drivers and operational implications.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, financial policies, and audit requirements.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement efficiency enhancements, including ERP improvements or workflow upgrades.
  • Provide financial insights and analysis to leadership to support decision-making.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff (if applicable).
  • Support organizational capability development by documenting procedures, improving reporting, and enhancing financial literacy across departments.
Qualifications and Skills
  • 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing.
  • A Bachelor’s degree from a recognized postsecondary institution with an acceptable specialization in accounting, business, commerce or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting, inventory valuation, and production workflows.
  • Advanced Excel skills; experience working within an ERP environment (Epicor preferred).
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to interpret financial data and communicate clearly with non-financial stakeholders.
