Sr. Accountant Calgary, AB

About the Role: Reporting to the Manager, Accounting, the Senior Accountant will play a critical role on the LodgeLink Financial Operations team, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting. This role will take ownership of complex accounting areas, lead continuous improvement initiatives, and provide analytical insights that support decision‑making across the business. They will oversee key components of the month‑end close, lead balance sheet and margin analysis, manage intercompany and consolidation activities, and act as a technical accounting resource for the team. The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, strong technical knowledge of IFRS, and proven ability to work cross‑functionally in a fast‑paced, high‑growth environment. If you’re a proactive problem‑solver who enjoys driving improvements and mentoring others, you’ll thrive in this role. This role is hybrid – in‑office with 20% flexibility to work from home.

Responsibilities
  • Lead month‑end, quarter‑end, and year‑end close activities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery of financial results.
  • Prepare and review complex journal entries with appropriate GL coding and supporting documentation.
  • Lead margin analysis and support financial performance reviews by preparing detailed variance analysis across revenue, cost of sales, and SGA spending.
  • Manage intercompany, interdivisional, and elimination entries; ensure proper alignment with Corporate Accounting and consolidation processes.
  • Oversee balance sheet reconciliations for high‑risk or complex accounts; ensure all reconciling items are investigated and resolved promptly.
  • Strengthen and enforce internal controls, financial procedures, and accounting policies related to month‑end close.
  • Identify, recommend, and lead process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and standardization across divisions.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities to support operational and strategic decisions.
  • Support external audits by preparing schedules, documentation, and technical accounting explanations.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior members of the accounting team.
  • Act as a key backup for critical accounting cycles and support other Finance functions as needed.
  • Perform other ad hoc analysis and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within a fast‑paced, high‑growth, or multi‑entity environment.
  • Post‑secondary degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or related discipline.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS is required.
  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) required.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivots, lookups, nested formulas, and data analysis tools.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem‑solving strengths with the ability to dissect issues and implement effective solutions.
  • High attention to detail with excellent organizational skills and ownership mindset.
  • Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with cross‑functional teams.
  • Proven ability to operate effectively in a dynamic environment with competing priorities and continuous change.
  • Prior experience in the travel industry, including familiarity with ARC/SABRE, is an asset.
