Job summary

David Aplin Group on behalf of its client in North Vancouver is seeking an experienced Accountant to manage day-to-day accounting and contribute to stronger financial reporting, controls, forecasting, and project financial management.

Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will own full-cycle accounting, support year-end requirements, manage AP/AR, payroll coordination, and monitor project budgets to drive profitability with potential to grow into a Controller role over time.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing or designated CPA
  • Diploma or degree in accounting
  • 5+ years of accounting experience
  • Project accounting experience is required

Responsibilities

  • Own day-to-day full-cycle accounting, including general ledger maintenance, journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, prepaid expenses, and month-end close.
  • Prepare supporting schedules and working papers for financial reporting, year-end requirements, audits, reviews, and tax filings.
  • Streamlining internal controls and accounting policies/procedures
  • Manage the end-to-end accounts payable process, including invoice review, coding, approvals, payment processing, vendor reconciliations, and outstanding items.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation for subcontractors, holdbacks, and construction-related vendor payments.
  • Oversee accounts receivable activities, including customer invoicing, progress billings, deposits, collections, and account reconciliations.
  • Coordinate or review payroll processing, including employee time submissions, benefits, statutory deductions and remittances, expenses, and payroll reconciliations.
  • Maintain project-level financial information by job, phase, cost code, vendor, and contractual commitment.
  • Monitor project budgets against actual expenditures and outstanding commitments.
  • Review change orders, committed costs, actual spending, and projected costs to identify potential budget issues.
  • Prepare and maintain work-in-progress schedules and assist with project margin and profitability analysis.
  • Prepare rolling cash flow projections for operating companies and individual development or construction projects.
  • Monitor cash positions, upcoming commitments, financing requirements, debt payments, and significant expected receipts.
  • Work directly with lenders, QS representatives, project managers, consultants, and internal stakeholders to resolve questions related to funding requests.
  • Maintain accurate records of draw requests, loan advances, interest, financing fees, repayments, and outstanding balances.
  • Reconcile lender funding to accounting records and project expenditures.
