Job summary

LaGrange District 102 seeks a Self Contained Special Education Teacher (Long Term Substitute) to support K-8 students. The role emphasizes individualized IEPs, collaboration with paraprofessionals, and instruction for students on the autism spectrum.

Strong knowledge of Federal guidelines and data-based progress monitoring is required. The candidate should hold the Illinois Professional Educator License with Early Childhood endorsement or SPED/LBS with Early Childhood endorsement, and Spanish

Qualifications

• Illinois Professional Educator License with Early Childhood endorsement is required.
• Endorsement in special education or Learning Behavior Specialist License with Early Childhood endorsement is required.
• Experience or coursework in the assignment area within the last 3–4 years is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide and implement educational plans compliant with Federal guidelines.
• Use strategies to instruct students on the autism spectrum.
• Collaborate with paraprofessionals in the classroom.
• Demonstrate knowledge of task analysis and sequential skills development.
• Plan daily activities aligned with instructional objectives.
• Write behavior objectives using data-based techniques and evaluate progress.
• Involve parents in IEP development and progress updates.
• Utilize assistive technology as appropriate for student needs.
• Provide individualized, small-group, and whole-group instruction.
• Create a learning environment suitable for ages 3–5 years.
• Prepare classrooms with varied materials for exploration and play.
• Observe and assess student performance.
• Arrange space for play and motor-skill activities.
• Attend to children’s basic needs when necessary.
• Communicate nonverbally to support and encourage students.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned by Building Administrator.

Qualifications:

• Arrange indoor or outdoor space to facilitate creative play, motor-skill activities, or safety.
• Attend to children's basic needs by feeding them, dressing them, or changing their diapers.
• Communicate nonverbally with children to provide them with comfort, encouragement, or positive reinforcement.
• Perform other tasks and projects as assigned by the Building Administrator.
