Job Summary

The Security Systems & Structured Cabling Technician – Team Lead is responsible for leading a field team in the installation, programming, testing, troubleshooting, and repair of security systems in commercial and industrial environments. Key systems include access control, CCTV, and Network Video Recorders (NVRs). This role combines technical expertise with leadership, customer engagement, and sales initiative.

In addition to core installation and service duties, this position will quote and scope customer work, identify and pursue additional sales opportunities while on-site, and ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to customer expectations. This role may require travel based on project assignments and the ability to work in safety-sensitive environments.

Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Coordination
  • Lead, mentor, and coordinate the work of technicians and apprentices on job sites.
  • Assign daily tasks, monitor progress, and ensure quality workmanship and adherence to company standards.
  • Provide on-the-job training, coaching, and technical guidance to less experienced staff.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for project updates, site coordination, and safety compliance.
  • Interpret and enforce company policies, procedures, and safety regulations.
  • Conduct site inspections and ensure proper documentation, reporting, and closeout packages are completed.
Customer Engagement, Quoting & Sales
  • Communicate directly with customers to assess needs, clarify scope, and provide professional recommendations.
  • Prepare and present accurate quotes and estimates for service calls, upgrades, and small projects.
  • Identify upselling opportunities and additional system enhancements while performing on-site work.
  • Maintain strong customer relationships through professionalism, responsiveness, and follow-up.
  • Represent the company positively and promote trust through knowledgeable and solution-oriented communication.
Security Systems
  • Install, program, test, troubleshoot, and repair security system equipment and software in medium and large-scale commercial and industrial settings.
  • Commission new systems, analyze system performance, and identify malfunctions.
  • Install and configure access control systems, CCTV, NVRs, and associated network components.
  • Perform software configuration, integration, and testing of new and existing systems.
  • Provide customer training and demonstrations on installed systems.
  • Ensure compliance with wiring standards, local codes, and safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for configurations, service records, and installations.
Structured Cabling
  • Install and test structured cable components including Cat 5E, Cat 6, Cat 6A, and Fiber Optic cabling.
  • Read, interpret, and maintain drawings and specifications.
  • Service, maintain, and troubleshoot commercial and industrial cabling networks.
  • Repair or replace faulty components as needed, ensuring quality and reliability.
  • Oversee and verify cable routing, labeling, and termination standards.
General
  • Coordinate material needs and communicates shortages or delays.
  • Maintain company tools, equipment, and vehicle in good working condition.
  • Support cross-functional collaboration with project managers, sales, and service teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in security systems installation and structured cabling; prior team lead or senior technician experience preferred.
  • Diploma or degree in Electronics, Communications, or a related field.
  • Certifications from Lenel, Milestone Systems, Avigilon, or Pelco preferred.
  • Strong understanding of networking requirements, wiring standards, and relevant codes.
  • Proven experience commissioning systems and leading small project teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to quote, scope, and sell service or small project work.
  • Excellent technical, mechanical, and troubleshooting aptitude.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.

Physical Demands

The Security Systems & Structured Cabling Technician – Team Lead must be able to spend the majority of the day standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, and bending. They may be required to stoop, bend, kneel and squat for extended periods of time. They also may be required to carry equipment weighing up to 50lbs for a short distance.

Working Conditions and Physical Environment

The Security Systems & Structured Cabling Technician – Team Lead will primarily work in outdoor environments at client sites, which may involve exposure to varying weather conditions and moderate to loud noise levels. Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, boots, hard hats, and safety vests must be worn on site. Additionally, rubber gloves are required for cleaning activities.
