Job summary

BlackBerry Inc. is seeking a security-minded student to support vulnerability identification, analysis, and remediation for BlackBerry products and services.

You will work with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment, tackling emergent software threats while learning cutting-edge security practices. The role requires pursuing a CS/Engineering degree, Python experience, and the ability to handle multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Develop systems and workflows to scale security efforts.
  • Use agentic tools to locate, assess, and remediate vulnerabilities.
  • Triage vulnerabilities and evaluate risk with CVSS.
  • Prioritize and coordinate response activities for timely remediation.
  • Report solutions beyond just identifying issues.
  • Deepen knowledge to maintain security of BlackBerry customers.

Job description

Worker Sub-Type: Student (Fixed Term) Job Description: BlackBerry builds and operates the most secure, sovereign, and trusted solutions relied on by enterprise and government customers worldwide. The members of BlackBerry’s Security Incident Response Team (BBSIRT) deliver on this promise by ensuring the ongoing security, resilience, and software integrity of our products and services. We are looking for a security-minded student to support our efforts in responding to emergent software-based cyber threats or incidents involving BlackBerry products and services. The successful candidate will work in a dynamic and challenging environment, collaborating with various teams across the organization to support vulnerability identification, analysis, and mitigation efforts. The technical and threat landscapes change constantly. This position will suit someone willing to learn continually while working on cutting edge technologies and handling multiple priorities. The ideal candidate will be able to analyze challenges and develop creative solutions. The role centers on solving problems at the intersection of technology and people.

What you will do
  • Develop systems and workflows to scale security efforts.
  • Use agentic tools to locate, assess, and recommend remediation for software vulnerabilities.
  • Triage vulnerabilities and quantitatively evaluate risk using industry standard metrics such as CVSS.
  • Prioritize and coordinate case-specific response activities, driving timely and appropriate remediation of issues.
  • Reporting the problem is not enough; solutions should be offered.
  • Continually deepen knowledge and skills in support of maintaining the security of BlackBerry customers.
Who we are looking for
  • Currently pursuing a post-secondary degree/diploma (Bachelors, Masters, or equivalent) in Computer Science/Engineering or a related field of study.
  • Python programming and debugging experience.
  • Experience with agentic coding assistants.
  • Ability to analyze code behavior.
  • Able to track and manage numerous parallel activities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrates analytical skills.
  • Able to work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of secure software development lifecycle.
  • Understands common classes of product security vulnerabilities and attack/defense methodologies.
  • Knowledge of application security configuration and best practices.
  • Reverse engineering skills.
  • Some knowledge of cryptography, including public key cryptography, hashes and SSL/TLS.
  • Ability to create proof of concept exploits for common types of vulnerability.

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40
Compensation Hiring Base Salary Range: $43,472.00 - $59,280.00
