Site Overview: SMGH is a 197-bed comprehensive community hospital located in Kitchener, Ontario, and the second largest acute care facility in the St. Joseph’s Health System. It serves Waterloo, Wellington, Dufferin, Grey-Bruce and surrounding regions, providing 24/7 emergency care, cardiac and respiratory services, outpatient/day surgery, and general medicine.

Position: Full-Time Security Guard
Site: Waterloo Regional Health Network, 911 Queen's Blvd, Kitchener, ON N2M 1B2

Hours: Rotating Continental (0700-1900/1900-0700 hrs)
Payrate: $20.24hr.
Averaging Agreement: Overtime is Averaging Agreement after 88 hours

Key responsibilities
  • Conduct regular rounds of hospital premises, including parking areas, hallways, patient rooms, entrances, and exits, to ensure the safety and security of the site
  • Operate security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring any suspicious activity is reported immediately to the appropriate authorities
  • Monitor and control entry points to the hospital, ensuring that only authorized individuals are allowed access to restricted areas
  • Act quickly in emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fire alarms, or security threats. Assist hospital staff as needed during crises and evacuations
  • Greeting and assisting visitors, patients, and hospital staff. Provide directions and ensure that guests adhere to hospital policies and procedures
  • De-escalate tense situations, resolve conflicts, and ensure that all interactions are handled calmly and professionally
  • Document daily activities, incidents, or accidents accurately. Complete reports on incidents, breaches, and security concerns
  • Work closely with hospital staff and local law enforcement to provide a coordinated security effort and ensure the safety of all parties involved
  • Ensure that hospital policies, including visitor and patient protocols, are followed
  • Address any violations in a manner that upholds hospital safety standards
Requirements
  • Valid Security License for the province of Ontario
  • Valid First Aid & CPR Level C from a WSIB approved provider
  • Immunization records for Mumps, Measles, Rubella, Varicella , Covid Vaccine two doses, and two step TB skin test
  • English (oral and written) fluency is a must
  • Must have one year experience in healthcare security, or law enforcement
  • Legally authorized to work in Canada
  • Degree in Police Foundations, Protection Security and Investigations, Criminology, or Border Services will be an asset
  • Able to provide a clean shaven face in order to pass a N95 mask fit test
  • Ability to walk/climb stairs throughout the premises for longer periods of time
  • Must be able to provide certifications in Use of Force (UOF) and Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB)
  • Applicants who do not possess these certifications can opt into Paladin's Use of Force (UOF)/Management of Aggressive Behavior (MOAB) training program prior to their onboarding training to ensure they meet the requirements of the position

Please be aware: The UOF/MOAB certification is not paid as it is a pre-employment requisite; however, Paladin will cover all the costs of the training with a 6-month commitment to the position/availability
