Positions Available
  • Full-Time Weekdays Night Shift from 12:00 am to 8:00 am (35 hrs. per week).
  • Part-Time Weekend Morning Shift 08:00 am to 4:00 pm (Variable per week).
  • Part-Time Weekend Night Shift 12:00 am to 8:00 am (Variable per week).
Position Summary

Uses a customer service centered approach during service delivery for residents, employees, clients, visitors as well as the facilities and properties that ensures safety and security.

Responsibilities
  • Provides safe and secure facilities for all users.
  • Patrols the facilities and grounds as per policy, procedures and operational guidelines.
  • Makes clear announcements to building occupants during emergency fire alarms and scheduled fire alarm testing.
  • Checks to ensures that the Computerized Security Television Video surveillance system (CCTV) is always functional and report any failure.
  • Ensures safety and security for all users of the facilities and properties within legislative guidelines, policies and procedures.
  • Emergency Response - fire, flood and maintenance
  • Responds to fire alarms and smoke alarms throughout the building and document incidents according to procedures.
  • Reports security breaches and support investigations with internal staff as well as community partners such as police and By-Law Officers.
  • Ensures that responses regarding incidents are resolved within 48 hours or escalated to direct supervisor.
  • Provides administrative and customer service.
  • Greetings and logs all visitors and contractors provided with building access.
  • Accept, log and notify residents of the lease property when parcels are received on their behalf.
  • Completes daily logs of inspections, alarm tests, deliveries, visitors and contractors.
  • Safety and other support duties.
  • Promotes safety to all users of the facilities by identifying and reporting hazards that could create potential safety risks to life and property.
  • Participates actively in emergency preparedness activities and act as a first responder.
  • Provides back-up department staff and coverage for breaks and absences as needed.
  • Attends meetings and participates in SPLC’s activities as required.
Education
  • Security Guard license required
  • Valid CPR and First Aid Certificate
  • Vulnerable Sector Check required
Experience & Skills
  • One year working experience preferably in community or housing setting as a security guard.
  • Problem solving and de-escalation skills.
  • Knowledge of fire safety systems, emergency evacuation and quick response.
  • Ability to work under pressure and in emergency situations to solve problems.
  • Ability to read and write incident reports and logs.
  • Ability to conduct frequent patrols of facilities and properties daily.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and communicating via the internet.
  • Experience working with seniors is an asset.

  • Required to work occasionally in the evenings, weekend hours, holidays and in emergency situations as needed.
