Job summary

Cambridge Memorial Hospital (CMH) is seeking a skilled Secretary-Pathology to transcribe surgical pathology, autopsy and biopsy dictations. You will prepare blocks, slides, and manage referrals, filing, and invoicing while maintaining accuracy and timely turnaround.

You will work in a fast-paced lab setting, using Editscript/Dictation with Meditech and MS Office. Strong pathology terminology, 65 wpm, and reliability are essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

  • Successful completion of College in Medical Office Admin or equivalent required.
  • Completion of Medical Terminology course required.
  • Minimum 3-5 years recent medical transcription experience required, particularly in pathology/laboratory.
  • Medical transcription experience for Surgical and medico-legal Autopsies required.
  • Editscrip transcription software/dictation experience preferred.
  • Meditech experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in pathology terminology essential.
  • Ability to meet or exceed 60 minutes/day of transcribed work with over 80% accuracy required.
  • Competency in Fluency Voice Recognition Dictation system required.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of MS Office, in particular MS Word required.
  • Excellent communication skills (proficiency in English writing and grammar) required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Typing speed of 65wpm and evidence of a high standard of accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular basis is required.

Responsible to transcribe surgical pathology reports, autopsy and biopsy dictation. Prepares blocks and slides for consult and arranges the sendout and receipt of issued specimens. Additional responsibilities include Synoptic reporting to Cancer Care Ontario, preparing and updating Pathology Office procedure manual, registration and accessioning of referred-in specimens, medical correspondence for pathology service, invoicing, reception/telephone and other clerical duties as assigned, including record keeping.

The successful incumbent must be able to manage a fast pace and high volume workload. Meeting expected turnaround times are crucial while productivity and accuracy standards are maintained. Must be experienced with laboratory and pathology terminology and able to communicate with pathologists regularly have a clear understanding of and using pathology & histology-specific terminology. The Secretary-Pathology must also be able to perform additional administrative duties as required.

The physical demands of the role may include but is not limited to prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, pushing and pulling. This position contributes to ensuring there is a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors.
