  • Candidates must be members in good standing or in the process of becoming Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) qualified with the OCT prior to the start date, and be enrolled or have completed their Special Education qualification based on Ontario College of Teachers qualifications;
  • If you are external to the YRDSB, you will be prompted to provide at least three professional, supervisory teaching references (including full name, position title, work location/organization, and email address) in the job posting screening section of the online application. We do not contact references prior to practicum/interview.
  • If you are an internal YRDSB employee, please include all of your previous teaching experiences in your application as well as two references, one of which must be a YRDSB administrator.
  • As a condition of employment, and in accordance with the Education Act, anyone seeking employment or wanting to volunteer must provide a satisfactory Police Record Check. A Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) must be completed by the police services in the jurisdiction in which you reside, based on your home address, and must be satisfactory to the YRDSB and completed within six (6) months prior to the scheduled start date. It is the candidate’s responsibility to provide the results to the Board upon instruction.
  • We will accept satisfactory PVSCs that name any other school board and other employers in Ontario and obtained within the last six (6) months.
Examples of referees
  • Principal/Vice-Principal that has supervised you and can speak to your teaching practice in the panel to which you are applying;
  • Faculty Advisor/Coordinator or Practicum Advisor that has observed and evaluated your teaching practice in a classroom setting;
  • Host/Mentor Teacher that has supervised you and can speak to your teaching practice in a secondary setting (Note that references cannot be completed by current OSSTF, D.16 members); and/or
  • Professional reference who can speak to your teaching practice.
