Job summary

Anishinabek Employment & Training Services is seeking a Cook to prepare meals for residents, staff and visitors at our Ontario site. Responsibilities include preparing regular and therapeutic foods and presenting meals attractively.

You will develop standardized recipes, maintain sanitation, and assist with supply orders. The role requires shift work including weekends/holidays and adherence to health and safety policies in a care setting.

Qualifications

  • Completion of Ontario Apprenticeship for the Cook trade with 3+ years institutional cook experience
  • Food handler training as mandated by MOHLTC
  • Understanding of elderly needs
  • Effective written and oral communication
  • Ability to work independently and in a team
  • Good lifting, safety and sanitation techniques
  • Compliant with Ontario OHSA requirements
  • Willing to work shifts including weekends/holidays
  • Provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination at conditional offer
  • Review and attest to Pioneer Ridge immunization policies
  • Pass a work fitness test
  • PVSC clearance
  • Two-step TB skin test within 12 months
  • Complete annual mandatory training

Duties
  • Responsible for the preparation and cooking of regular and therapeutic foods.
  • Ensures correct portioning and attractive presentation of foods.

Qualifications
  • Successful completion of an Ontario Apprenticeship program for the Certified trade of Cook, together with a minimum of 3 years experience as an Institutional Cook
  • Successful completion of the food handler training program as mandated by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care
  • A genuine understanding of the needs of the elderly is required
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Demonstrated ability to practice good lifting and safety and sanitation techniques
  • Must be competent within the meaning of the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act

Must be willing to work shift work, including weekends and holidays

Must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination at point of conditional offer

Prior to commencing employment, will be required to review and attest/affirm to all Pioneer Ridge Staff Immunization Policies

Must pass work fitness test

Must undergo a successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)

Must have successfully undergone a "two step" tuberculosis skin test within the 12 months prior to employment

Prior to commencing employment, must undergo a successful Offence & Professional Misconduct Declaration Process

Must successfully complete all mandatory training as required by the Corporation on an annual basis
