Job summary

A continuing care organization in Dartmouth is seeking a Second Cook for a part-time, permanent role. Responsibilities

  • Prepares residents meals according to established standards.
  • Performs established procedures for stock control and food safety.
  • Ensures safe storage and preparation of all food supplies.
  • Maintains high level personal hygiene and sanitation.
  • Responds to food service requests from various areas.
  • Prepares foods for ancillary meal services and special occasions.
  • Assists with and performs other related duties.

We are looking for a dynamic individual to be a part of our team for the position of Second Cook.

Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Diploma of Culinary Arts or Equivalent
  • Basic Food Safety Certification
  • Three to five years of relevant work experience
  • Food service experience required
  • Recipe development experience required
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs at a time, in good general health and able to endure the day-to-day pressure of the position.
  • Must maintain regular and consistent attendance in accordance with the Northwood standard.
Responsibilities
  • Prepares residents meals according to established standards including cook / chill / freeze menu concept, special instructions, recipes, volumes, temperature, food safety, use of garnishes or condiments to ensure optimum nutrition and presentation
  • Performs established procedures for stock control, prepared food packaging and rotation using HACCP principles
  • Ensures safe and appropriate storage and preparation of all food supplies using HACCP principles
  • Maintains a high level personal hygiene and sanitation in the work area
  • Responds to and accommodates requests from various areas of the facility regarding food service / production via telephone or electronic communication and responds appropriately providing additional servings / specials, and other related requests as needed
  • Performs proper operation, safety, cleaning and sanitation procedures (applying WHMIS training) with all equipment and also in work area
  • Prepares foods for ancillary meal services Assisted Living, Enriched Meal Program, Adult Day Care; Community Centre; Meals on Wheels, special occasions and special function services
  • Assists with and performs other related duties as may be requested.

Hours of Work : 56 Hours Biweekly - 8 Hour Shifts

Salary : As per Northwood Scale
