Job summary

A local eco-resort operation in Powell River is searching for a Guide to lead 4–5 day sea kayak tours in Desolation Sound. The role requires strong outdoor experience and excellent communication skills among others. Candidates should be physically fit, have appropriate guiding certifications, and preferably possess local knowledge of the area. This position offers casual guiding shifts in summer and full season roles from mid-June to mid-September. Assistance with certification costs may be available for suitable candidates.

Qualifications

• Minimum certification: Assistant Overnight Guide (AOG) with Sea Kayak Guides Alliance of BC.
• Physically fit and capable of managing groups on the water and land.
• Local knowledge of Powell River / Desolation Sound region is an asset.

Responsibilities

• Guide groups on 4–5 day sea kayak tours in Desolation Sound.
• Maintain guest safety and risk management standards.
• Assist in the resort kitchen and support meal service.
• Lead activities such as snorkelling, hiking, and nature interpretation.

List of Requirements

• Minimum certification: Assistant Overnight Guide (AOG) with the Sea Kayak Guides Alliance of BC (or willingness to achieve this before the season)
• Strong outdoor experience and comfort working in varied coastal conditions
• Physically fit and capable of managing groups on the water and land
• Excellent communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude
• Local knowledge of Powell River / Desolation Sound region considered an essential asset

List of Duties

• Guide groups of up to 10 guests on 4–5 day sea kayak tours in Desolation Sound
• Maintain the highest standards of guest safety and risk management
• Assist in the resort kitchen and support meal service
• Lead other guest activities such as snorkelling, hiking, and nature interpretation
• Collaborate with a small team to create an exceptional experience for all guests
• Powell River Sea Kayak operates 4–5 day guided sea kayak tours from its eco-resort base in Desolation Sound: Cabana Desolation Eco Resort.
• We are reaching out to local residents with strong outdoor skills and local knowledge who may be interested in:
• Casual guiding shifts throughout the summer, and/or a full guiding season mid-June to mid-September.
