Job summary

N.P.A. and its Wapiti Gravel Suppliers division in Edmonton, AB, seeks skilled Screed Personnel to support asphalt paving operations and ensure quality road surfaces.

You will assist with paver/screed setup, monitor mat thickness, and help maintain equipment while following safety rules and the company Code of Ethics. Overtime and outdoor conditions apply, with potential for travel to job sites.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED preferred.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license required.
• 2–3 years paving/road construction experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the safe and efficient operation of the asphalt paver and screed during paving activities.
• Support the Screed Operator in maintaining specified mat thickness, width, grade, and cross-slope requirements.
• Monitor asphalt mix distribution to ensure a uniform mat and minimize segregation.
• Assist with setting and adjusting screed extensions, end gates, and other components as directed.
• Help set up and maintain ski systems, grade controls, and other automated paving equipment.
• Observe paving process and communicate quality concerns, irregularities, or changes in roadway conditions to the Screed Operator or Foreman.
• Assist with measuring asphalt width, depth, and surface characteristics to meet project specs.
• Support paving crew activities, including equipment prep and keeping a clean, organized work area.
• Perform daily equipment inspections, routine maintenance, and safety checks.
• Assist with preheating, cleaning, and upkeep of screed equipment.
• Work with crew to meet production targets and quality standards.
• Promote and adhere to safety program and company Code of Ethics.
