Job description
Overview

This is a cross-cultural educational experience where students travel in small teams to countries where the culture differs from theirs. For a minimum of 10 weeks, they immerse themselves and complete long‑term placements with organizations that work to improve their local communities. Students contribute to efforts to:

  • observe and learn with and from local people and communities;
  • appreciate multiple perspectives on issues;
  • understand how others experience situations and decisions;
  • evaluate how leadership functions in other cultures and societies.

A rigorous preparation and re‑entry process as well as a set of assignments facilitated by a UNB faculty member help students go through a structured process of inquiry and reflection to build knowledge through experience. A presentation during the subsequent fall term concludes the internship. (Students cannot receive credit for both RCLP3046 and LEAD3046).

Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in social sciences or humanities or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience teaching and mentoring students at the university level;
  • Experience working with community organizations in Canada and abroad;
  • Experience working or living abroad would be an important asset.
Other Skills
  • Outstanding inter‑cultural communication skills (another language is an asset);
  • High level of tolerance to change, risks and uncertainties;
  • Ability to work and make decisions under pressure.
