School Bus Monitor

SOUTHLAND is excited to be expanding our routes throughout the Regional Municipality of Halifax for the 2025 – 2026 school year, and are hiring School Bus Monitors to join our team – multiple positions available.

Bus Monitors support the bus driver during the trip to and from school each day and must be capable of managing a group of students of varying ages, needs and behaviors. Patience, compassion, and attention to safety are all traits that will help you excel in this role.

As a Bus Monitor, you will work a split shift, working approximately 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon. You will be assigned a route that falls between the hours of 6:00 am – 9:30 am in the morning and between 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm in the evening. Bus Monitors work during the school year and are given time off in July and August and school holidays. This includes loading, securing, and unloading children in wheelchairs and car seats.

Requirements
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, co‑workers, parents and teachers
  • Organized, punctual and reliable
  • Experience in childcare / working with children considered an asset
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
  • Clear Criminal Record, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Abuse Registry Check
  • First Aid & CPR certification (covered by SOUTHLAND)
