ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Shredder Scale Operator is responsible for managing the flow of scrap delivery trucks, ensuring smooth traffic through effective communication with dispatch, operations, and yard personnel. Provides a positive first and last impression by greeting suppliers, drivers, and stakeholders enthusiastically. Handles accurate checking, verification, input, and record-keeping for both scrap metal receipts and processed material shipments, while developing improved tracking methods for the shredder process. Focused on minimizing Truck Residency Time (TRT) through planning and coordination. Demonstrates strong communication skills with a customer-first approach, proficiency in computer systems, and adaptability to learn new software. Accepts responsibility for challenging tasks, works comfortably with a unionized workforce, and supports cross-training as a yard inspector for coverage during vacancies.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Weigh all trucks entering the site while ensuring the driver follows proper procedures to allow for a radiation scan of the load. Coordinate with the Environmental department on radioactive loads of scrap material.
  • Weigh all outbound trucks and provide drivers with scale tickets.
  • Document all inbound and outbound deliveries using computer software.
  • Provide positive experience for all truck drivers as they go through the scale house process.
  • Resolve issues with contracts, sales documents, bills of lading, etc. by contacting the appropriate resources.
  • Answer scale house phone and provide professional, courteous information to callers.
  • Maintain radio contact with truck drivers as well as operational personnel.
  • Manage the work area by keeping all paperwork neatly filed as well as maintaining cleanliness of scale house and workstation(s) according to 5S standards.
  • Ability to interact and instruct others in the safe practices of scrap off-loading, inspection and storage.
  • Visually inspect scrap for grade and quality, ensure they match the ticket information.
  • Direct trucks to the proper unloading area, communicate with appropriate resources.
  • Regularly consult with the scrap buyers, suppliers, and operators regarding scrap quality.
  • Participates in routine meetings.
  • Create improvement plans related to the scale house process.
  • Enforce gate security practices.
WHAT YOU HAVE TO OFFER

WHAT GERDAU OFFERS

SALARY:

  • Expected Salary Range: $49,520 - $61,900*/year.
  • This position is eligible for paid overtime.
