Job summary

AESO in Calgary is seeking a SCADA Engineer or Technologist to support the real-time operations of the Alberta electrical grid within the EMS portfolio.

You will design, configure, test, implement, document and troubleshoot systems and provide 24/7 on-call incident response while collaborating with IT and project teams. The role offers a hybrid work arrangement, travel to a NW Calgary site, and opportunities for professional development.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in electrical engineering technology or bachelor’s degree in an engineering/IT field.
  • 5–7 years of experience in a relevant electrical utility or Power Systems discipline.
  • Experience with SCADA systems and real-time operating environments.
  • Knowledge of DNP3, ICCP, and EMS software is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Design, configure, test, implement, document, troubleshoot, and maintain SCADA/EMS systems for real-time control.
  • Provide 7 x 24 on-call support for real-time operations, including incident and problem management.
  • Review technical documents and diagrams to develop SCADA requirements for AESO’s power system model.
  • Coordinate with internal/external personnel to implement, test, and validate data and interfaces.
  • Support CIP/Security standards compliance and integration with IT systems.
