Hydro One is seeking an SAP Technical Specialist to support complex IT environments, SAP systems, and associated databases. The role involves improving performance, security, and reliability across physical and virtual infrastructures, with emphasis on monitoring, reporting, and upgrades.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the development, stability, performance, optimization, testing, and security for areas including, but not limited to complex IT infrastructures, physical and virtual IT environments, IT systems, IT applications, databases, networks using relevant technologies from vendors such as Cisco, Oracle, Microsoft, VMWare, Dynatrace, Splunk, SysTrack, ServiceNow, SAP, Microfocus ALM, Veritas, HP, HPE, Hitachi, IBM, 3Par, etc.
  • Provide operational and project support in areas of expertise including monitoring, reporting, recommending and implementing actions to improve the performance, effectiveness and efficiency of IT infrastructures, physical and virtual IT environments, IT systems, and IT applications across the enterprise using one or more of the technologies list above as needed.
  • Work with the Supervisor to plan and perform day-to-day technical administrative, environment management, release management, change management, and testing and quality management activities for relevant technologies (such as SAP) to align with the required frameworks and procedures. Tasks may include, but are not limited to architecting activities for upgrades and major releases; deploying code into the appropriate environments; and investigating and resolving complex system or application integration issues in collaboration with multiple stakeholders (e.g., Change and Release Management team, functional teams).
  • Support the creation of the architectural and / or technical maintenance roadmaps and integration of associated processes to address Hydro One’s current and future needs. Participate in annual planning and reviews related to application maintenance and upgrades for relevant technologies (e.g. SAP) as needed.
  • Support Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity Planning (BCP) by providing inputs for respective areas of work that may include but are not limited to IT infrastructures, physical and virtual IT environments, IT systems, IT applications, databases, networks, storage, and servers using relevant technologies listed above. Support execution of these DR and BCP plans as needed.
  • Configure and maintain IT performance and threat monitoring tools (such as Dynatrace, Splunk, SysTrack, SAP Solution Manager); and build integrations with IT Service Management platforms such as ServiceNow as needed, to support incident creation and tracking.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders (such as other ISD teams, LoBs) to design and build tools such as real-time dashboards and/or reports for specified timeframe to identify IT performance trends and alerts to notify relevant stakeholders of deviations from SLAs or other metrics to enable proactive operational support.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Job Function:

Provide support for areas including, but not limited to, complex Information Technology (IT) infrastructures, physical and virtual IT environments, IT systems, IT applications, databases, NIX, Wintel, networks, security, performance, reporting, disaster recovery, testing Pay Scale Group MP4 Points 0286 and quality management, environment management, and release management using relevant technologies from vendors such as Cisco, Oracle, Microsoft, VMWare, Dynatrace, Splunk, SysTrack, ServiceNow, SAP, Microfocus ALM, Veritas, HP, HPE, Hitachi, IBM, 3Par, etc. Perform operational and project support activities including monitoring and improving the performance of relevant IT technologies and IT applications. Provide updates on work status, risks/issues, and mitigation/resolution plans. Support creation of internal and external request for proposals (RFPs) and help with vendor response evaluations. Support building and extraction of performance reports for leadership as needed.

  • Participate in project status meetings, involving technical staff, management, and various IT departments. Prepare and review specifications, proposals, investigative reports, business case documents, design documents, maintenance documentation, operating instructions, and user manuals.
  • Support creation of internal and external RFPs and help with vendor response evaluations.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Selection Criteria:

  • Requiresexperience in the IT domain with proficiency in relevant areas such as technical/systems architecture, infrastructure, databases, NIX, Wintel, networking, security, performance, reporting, disaster recovery, inventory lifecycle management, environment management, release management, change management, and test and quality management.
  • Requires experience with and knowledge of relevant IT infrastructures, technologies, and tools from vendors such as Cisco, Oracle, Microsoft, VMWare, Dynatrace, Splunk, SysTrack, ServiceNow, SAP, Veritas, HP, HPE, Hitachi, IBM, 3Par, etc. and the application of their characteristics and capabilities in the design, development, implementation, testing, and ongoing operations and maintenance.
  • Requires deep analytical problem-solving skills with advanced proficiency.
  • A period of over 8 years and up to and including 10 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.

Education:

  • Requires in depth knowledge of IT, computer science, or equivalent, specifically deep understanding of how IT systems, network design and modeling and general security work and associated processes, concepts, best practices, and problem solving.
  • Requires good knowledge of English to communicate effectively with others, provide effective presentations and create and/or update documentations such as reports.
  • This knowledge is normally considered to be acquired through 4 years of University Training.
