Samples & Logistics HSE Specialist

At Bayer Crop Science, we are looking for a dedicated Samples & Logistics HSE Specialist to be a key player in ensuring the successful registration of agricultural chemicals. This role is essential in supporting our research efforts and driving forward our mission to provide sustainable agricultural solutions.

The registration of agricultural chemicals depends on the submission of comprehensive crop efficacy, tolerance, residue, and field dissipation studies to governmental regulatory authorities. This position is our internal resource to cross‑functionally support research in the form of supplying test materials for Field Solutions, Environmental Affairs, Agronomic Services and Marketing in generating data for support of product registration.

What you will do
  • Build strong relationships with our internal customers by delivering solutions that prioritize their needs.
  • Foster open lines of communication with researchers, regulatory bodies, and marketing teams, ensuring a seamless and efficient process in the provision of chemical samples across Canada and into the USA/EU.
  • Oversee the logistics of chemical samples, collaborating with North American and Global Samples Logistics teams to create efficiencies and ensure timely delivery.
  • Partner with both internal and external stakeholders to source and procure the necessary products, representing Bayer Crop Science at industry meetings and contributing to our reputation for excellence.
Your responsibilities include
  • Forecasting and Inventory Management: Gather orders from Canadian research teams, prioritize needs, procure samples, and manage the Saskatoon Chemical Samples Lab inventory for the upcoming season.
  • Sample Distribution: Coordinate the receipt and distribution of chemical products to researchers, ensuring all samples are prioritized, tracked, labeled, and shipped efficiently.
  • Documentation and Compliance: Handle all necessary documentation to facilitate smooth movement of chemical samples and maintain compliance with Bayer’s guidelines and local regulations.
  • Global Tools Utilization: Actively populate and manage global software tools such as Velocity and RoSaL (SAP) throughout the chemical sample coordination process.
  • Quality Assurance: Regularly assess the integrity and quality of chemical sample inventory to provide the best resources for research. Ensure disposal of chemical samples within Chemical Samples Lab according to Bayer Crop Science’s guidelines and in‑line with local and/or provincial regulations.
  • Collaboration with Trade Teams: Maintain strong relationships with the Canadian Global Trade team for efficient sample imports and exports.
  • Lab Operations Management and Compliance: Oversee lab equipment maintenance, procure supplies, collaborate with administration for CAPEX requests, and manage all sustainability and health & safety requirements in compliance with GLP guidelines. Provide functional leadership for Stewardship, Compliance and SSHE requirements for the Field Solutions Canada team and collaborate with the Regional Safety and Compliance lead to fulfill all Canadian activities and/or requirements.
Who you are

You are a detail‑oriented professional with a passion for logistics and safety in the agricultural sector. You bring:

  • B.Sc. in a related field with at least 3 years of relevant experience, or a Diploma with over 5 years of experience.
  • Strong logistics experience in managing the safety of chemical goods material handling, packaging, inventory management, and shipping (Experience in crop protection logistics is a plus).
  • Training and certification in WHMIS, TDG, IATA, and 49CFR.
  • Proven ability to oversee laboratory operations and manage inventory control using software applications (e.g., SAP).
  • Proficiency in MS Office and a quick adaptability to internal digital tools.
  • Leadership abilities and a knack for working independently and managing multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Ability to master ongoing changes covering complex technical details and problem solving.
  • A willingness to travel domestically and internationally from time to time.
