We are seeking a results-oriented and driven Field Sales Manager to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for building world-class relationships with major home center retail partners, driving in-store sales, and leading a team of Merchandisers & Counselors (M&Cs) to maximize the presence and performance of Scotts Miracle-Gro brands in your assigned territory.

In this role you will :

Retail Partner Management : Cultivate and maintain exceptional relationships with major home center retailers (e.g., The Home Depot, Rona).

Sales & Growth : Drive in-store sales growth, aligning efforts with Scotts’ overarching Sales and Marketing objectives.

Strategic Planning : Assess local market opportunities and utilize strategic selling tactics, including analyzing key metrics and preparing Business Line Reviews, to educate partners and drive joint business opportunities.

Inventory Optimization : Manage the Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI) program to ensure optimal product levels and drive regional growth.

Team Leadership & Development :

Lead the full lifecycle of team management : develop recruiting plans, interview, and make hiring decisions for the Merchandiser & Counselor (M&C) team.

Manage, direct, and coach M&Cs, including planning, scheduling, delegating work assignments, and providing consistent, ongoing feedback.

Product Expertise : Provide thorough product knowledge and education to retail staff and consumers, regularly conducting in-season workshops.

Merchandising Excellence : Collaborate with retailers on the proper merchandising of Scotts’ product lines, ensuring effective use of point-of-purchase (POP) materials.

Financial Management : Effectively manage and control the regional budget and expenditures.

What you’ll need to be successful :
  • Experience : Proven history of achieving sales goals and objectives, coupled with at least one year of supervisory experience leading a field team.
  • Skills : Strong knowledge of retail operations, sales, and merchandising principles.
  • Aptitude : Exceptional problem-solving and service-oriented attitude, with proven ability to negotiate and persuade effectively.
  • Communication : Excellent sales presentation skills and comfort speaking in front of both small and large groups.
  • Technology : Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Gmail, Calendar).
  • Education : Post‑secondary education or equivalent experience in field sales.
  • Licensing : A current, valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions
  • Schedule : Standard 37.5‑hour work week, with required flexibility for extended and / or additional hours, including evenings and weekends, particularly during the peak spring and summer season.
  • Travel : Regular travel throughout the assigned territory is required, including the ability to travel overnight by automobile or airline.
  • Physical : Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 60 lbs (27 kg), climb a ladder (up to 12 feet), and reach overhead to assist with merchandising.
