Job description

Orchard House Surgery, in Newmarket on the border of Suffolk and Cambridgeshire, is seeking a salaried GP to join our friendly teaching and training practice for both Cambridge Medical Students and Bury St Edmunds GPSTP. This position is for 6 sessions a week, worked Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

The practice is one of three based in Newmarket that provides a high level of care to our patients in Newmarket and surrounding villages and we can offer the following;

  • Large, well-equipped, purpose-built premises with free onsite parking, and within walking distance of Newmarket town.
  • Lunchtime educational meetings with lunch provided.
  • Two timetabled coffee breaks to help us support one another at 11am and 4.00pm.
  • Supported by an experienced nursing team who run minor illness and chronic disease clinics.
  • Practice-integrated PCN staff: part-time clinical pharmacist, part-time social prescriber, full-time emergency care practitioner as well as access to an MSK FCP service including steroid injection clinics.
  • Experienced and dedicated reception and admin team.
  • Outstanding CQC & track record of high QOF achievement.
  • Personal development encouraged and supported.

Main duties of the job

All applicants should have the following qualifications:

  • Fully qualified GP with GMC registration
  • Annual appraisal and revalidation (when appropriate)
  • Be on the NHSE medical performers list

and skills, including:

  • Good understanding and experience of chronic disease management, and primary prevention and screening services;
  • Ability to take responsibility for your own career development, learning and performance and are responsible for ensuring that all your mandatory training is in date;
  • Awareness of and compliance with all relevant practice policies and guidelines, e.g. prescribing, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety;
  • Commitment to life-long learning and audit to ensure evidence-based best practice;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a confidential manner.
About us

We are a 6-partner PMS practice with approximately 12,000 patients. We employ 4 further salaried doctors and a part time MSK First Contact Practitioner.
