Overview
Thrive Freeze Dry, a rapidly growing freeze-dried manufacturing company, is recruiting for a passionate and detail-oriented Safety Technician for our Langley, BC office. This role reports to the Safety Supervisor. It is onsite and works 5 days a week, Monday to Friday. The ideal candidate will support the implementation and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs within a production environment. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and proficiency in safety systems and tools are required.
Responsibilities
- Support the implementation of Safety policies and procedures in a production environment.
- Promote the safety observations program, encouraging continuous improvement in safe work practices.
- Assist in developing job-specific safety documentation, including job hazard analyses and safe work procedures.
- Support, train, and coach teams on safety observations, job-specific hazard analyses, safety work practices, biomechanics, and other safety topics to proactively assess and mitigate workplace risks.
- Conduct audits and inspections to ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and company policies, identifying areas for improvement.
- Aid in incident investigations, compiling reports, analyzing root causes, and recommending corrective actions.
- Monitor, track, and analyze incidents, observations, and corrective actions recorded in EHS systems, ensuring accuracy, completion, and compliance.
- Ensure all safety equipment is properly maintained, readily available, and compliant with regulations.
- Collaborate with teams across departments to identify, assess, and mitigate potential workplace hazards, fostering a strong safety culture.
- This person must have strong computer skills, the ability to learn applications quickly, and to provide end-user support as needed.
Qualifications
- 1-2 years of experience in safety, or a related field is preferred.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and workplace safety best practices.
- Ability to identify hazards, assess risks, and support effective safety solutions.
- Strong communication and coaching skills to promote a safety-first mindset.
- Ability to communicate safety concepts clearly and effectively.
- Comfortable training groups of employees in a classroom or on the production floor.
- Must display a cohesive ability to apply interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to engage with individuals respectfully and collaboratively and exercise sound judgment.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for documentation and reporting.
Physical Requirements
- The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, and/or crawling; and frequent fine finger dexterity. Time spent: 20%+ sitting, 40%+ walking, 40%+ standing.
- The job is performed under frequent temperature variations and in a food manufacturing warehouse environment. Unrestricted visual and audio abilities are required for the safety of all employees. The ability to lift up to 30 lbs is required.

- In the absence of Safety and Security Manager, serve as back up to ensure all food safety, quality objectives and SQF system requirements are met.
