Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Safety while taking daily direction from local operations the Safety Manager plays a key leadership role in fostering a culture of safety across all levels of the organization. This role is responsible for the development implementation and ongoing management of site-specific safety programs policies standards and procedures. The ideal candidate is a collaborative relationship-builder who works closely with front-line supervisors and operational teams to uphold and exceed OSCOs safety standards. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential as the Safety Manager must engage effectively with a wide range of trades and gain a thorough understanding of the work performed across multiple sites. This position requires regular travel throughout the Greater Toronto Area and Southwestern Ontario to provide hands-on support and ensure consistent safety practices across all locations.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise and mentor Safety Coordinatorsacross the assigned territory
  • Collaborate with Operations teamsto provide expert guidance on safety matters
  • Identify and prioritize health and safety challengeswithin the workplace and construction sites
  • Assess and mitigate hazardsassociated with high-risk and complex activities
  • Participate in industrial hygiene testing monitoringandannual equipment certifications
  • Work closely with Operationsto drive forward solutions and implement corrective actions for unsafe behaviors or conditions
  • Lead and facilitate incident investigationsand deliver timely reports on injuries property damage near misses and other events
  • Conduct comprehensive safety auditsto ensure compliance and continuous improvement
  • Liaise with internal stakeholders and external agenciesto build strong collaborative relationships
  • Support safety-related legal proceedings and appealsas required
  • Coordinate and facilitate safety training programsand in-house courses
  • Stay informed on evolving legislation standardsandsafety management practices
  • Develop and maintain safety programs polices and procedures.
  • Oversee Emergency Preparedness Plans and Drillsto ensure readiness
Qualifications
  • Technical Requirements
  • 7-10 years of progressive safety experience in an industrial / unionized environment ideally within the Construction Industry
  • Comprehensive understanding of legislative safety requirementsacross relevant jurisdictions
  • Professional Safety designation (CSS CSO NCSO CRSP) considered an asset
  • Business Requirements
  • Strong attention to detailpaired with advancedanalytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proven ability to lead and manage teams effectively
  • Social Requirements
  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills coupled with proven ability to work well in a fast-paced deadline driven environment
