The Safety Assistant reports to the Safety Manager and works within our in-house management of safety programs including claims and insurance. This is a good entry level opportunity for a safety professional with some experience.

  • Enforcing safety protocols for compliance with company policy and/or regulations
  • Processing transportation documentation
  • Compliance Regulations: Monitoring and implementing updates to compliance procedures as regulations evolve ensures all transportation activities adhere to local, Provincial, and federal laws. Communicating regulatory requirements to drivers and management effectively.
  • Regulatory Research: Ensure organizational adherence to legal standards by continuously monitoring updates in laws, regulations, and guidelines and best practices.
  • Audit Preparation: Organizing and reviewing all relevant documents, assisting with facilitating a smooth audit process. They identify potential compliance issues in advance and coordinate with various departments to gather necessary information, meeting all audit requirements efficiently.
  • Compliance Reporting: Responsible for creating detailed and accurate reports that reflect the organization’s compliance with laws, regulations, and internal policies. Possession of a keen attention to detail and the ability to interpret regulatory requirements, ensuring documentation effectively communicates compliance status to stakeholders.
  • Work across interdepartmental projects: Involvement in crafting and revising company policies is a critical role for. Conduct thorough research and collaborate with departments to ensure guidelines are compliant, clear, and communicated effectively across the organization, reflecting the latest regulatory standards and best practices.
  • Assist in the development/reviews and implementation of emergency response plans for company terminals and transportation incidents, ensuring readiness to handle unexpected situations.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of internal compliance policies and procedures to ensure they align with local, Provincial, and federal regulations.
  • Assist with the preparation of regular audits of company operations, and records to identify potential compliance issues or breaches.
  • Serve as a high-level point of contact for all terminals to report compliance concerns or violations, ensuring confidentiality and proper escalation to Compliance Manager if necessary.
  • Compile and maintain documentation and evidence of compliance efforts, audits, and corrective actions taken to address non-compliance issues.
  • Maintenance of ISN/Avetta/Compyworks

What You Bring

  • 2 - 3 years’ experience in regulatory compliance in transportation or an industry where skills and knowledge would be considered as transferable.
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS excel.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze data and make recommendations based on findings.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of a safety management systems.
  • Ability to multitaskwhile staying organized.
