Job summary

Lethbridge School Division invites applications for a Learning Commons Facilitator at Immanuel Christian Secondary School. The role supports literacy, numeracy and student outcomes by providing access to print and digital resources and by enabling collaboration and creativity in learning spaces.

A post-secondary Diploma in Library and Information Technology with related experience is required; proficiency with Follett/Destiny, Word, Excel and Publisher is expected.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 or GED; ECA required for non-Canadian credentials.
  • Combination of education and experience considered.
  • Evidence of coursework through Mohawk College if diploma not possessed.

Responsibilities

  • Assist students and staff in locating materials and using learning commons resources.
  • Collaborate with administration and staff to select and acquire materials.
  • Support Maker Spaces and provide access to print and digital resources.
  • Promote literacy, numeracy, and diverse Canadian/international resources.

Lethbridge School Division - Learning Commons Facilitator - ICSS

We are excited to have a Learning Commons Facilitator opportunity available immediately. Lethbridge School Division is looking for an energetic, collaborative and creative individual to work as part of a dynamic team. The Learning Commons Facilitator supports schools by being an agile and responsive individual who creates an environment that is available to individuals and groups to use for multiple, often simultaneous, purposes. Learning Commons Facilitators support literacy, numeracy, competency development, and student learning outcomes. Learning Commons Facilitators provide access to print and digital resources, including the use of technology for learning in order to enable creation, collaboration, and communication.

Our Division is a proud neighbor to the largest First Nation reserve area in Canada which is called Kainai Nation. We are fortunate to learn from Indigenous communities and are committed to enhancing our understanding of the truths of our past so we can continue to move towards reconciliation.

The successful applicant will act in an advisory role to assist students and staff in locating material and using technology and other learning commons resources. External contacts may be made with other learning commons or resource centers to locate requested information or materials. Learning Commons Facilitators work collaboratively in the selection and acquisition of material for the learning commons in consultation with Administration and/or the school based Learning Commons Committee. Learning Commons Facilitators provide support, space and resources for inquiry, play, and imagination. Learning Commons Facilitators promote and facilitate the use of quality learning resources in multiple formats and provide exposure to a wide variety of Canadian and international resources (fiction and nonfiction) which reflect multiple perspectives, promote literacy and numeracy, and develop students' interests and competencies beyond the school setting.

What will you work?

18.00 hours/week Monday to Friday (late morning/afternoons). This position follows the assigned Learning Commons Facilitator calendar and affords the successful candidate to have some school breaks off.

What do you need to succeed?

Have a strong understanding and commitment towards our school's philosophy. Have a proven history of positive interactions with students and parents. Have a proven history of advocacy for community involvement in the school. Have a proven history of being a committed team member at both the school and division level. Have a proven understanding of literature that best interests students. Have a proven commitment to organizing, implementing and facilitating Maker Spaces. We are looking for experience in the following programs: Follett/Destiny Word Excel Publisher.

Immanuel Christian Secondary School serves approximately 350 students from grade 6 to grade 12 offering an Alternative Program in accordance with the Alberta Education Act within Lethbridge School Division. Our school is operated through a partnership between the Society for Christian Education in Southern Alberta and the Lethbridge Division School Board. Education and Experience Required:

Post-secondary Diploma and related experience. Candidates who do not possess a two (2) year diploma in a related program will be required to complete five (5) courses through Mohawk College. Combination of education and experience. Proof of Grade 12 or General Educational Development (GED). Education received outside of Canada will require a Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) confirming high school or post secondary equivalencies.

Post-secondary diploma in Library and Information Technician with some related experience.
