A regional educational institution in Comox Valley seeks a Computer Technician. This full-time role involves installing, maintaining, and repairing computer equipment, while working closely with the IT team. We invite applications for the position of Computer Technician, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. The current rate of pay is $33.62.
Grade 12 education supplemented by: CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+ or comparable experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of personal computers in a networked environment; two years post-secondary education; combinations of applicable education (and experience/training based on this education) may include diploma and/or bachelors work at accredited post-secondary institutions with a focus on Computer Science; minimum of three years current experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of personal computers in a networked environment; thorough knowledge of a variety of electronic tools and equipment used in the installation, maintenance, and repair of personal computers in a networked environment; knowledge of current operating and networking systems, networking technologies and protocols, and software installation and maintenance; knowledge of and demonstrated ability in the support and use of Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Windows operating systems, Microsoft Windows Server operating system, and Microsoft Active Directory; valid Class 5 B.C. driver's license and license appropriate to the type of equipment/vehicle being operated and a personal vehicle for use on the job; meets the physical requirements of the position; ability to work independently and as a member of a team; excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Duties are performed under the supervision of the Manager of Information Technology or designate; work effectively both independently with minimal guidance/instruction, and as a member of the district technology team to install, maintain and repair a variety of computer equipment including personal computers, peripheral devices, servers and network equipment used in district LANs and WANs; identify and resolve issues with a variety of software applications and hardware tools; service, repair and perform routine maintenance on a variety of district computer and audio-visual equipment; move, set up and assist in the operation of various computer and audio-visual equipment; maintain an inventory of consumable items and replacement parts for the repair of personal computer and audio-visual equipment; maintain an inventory of district computers and network equipment; receive, assemble and inspect newly-received computer, network and server equipment; assist users with the operation and use of computers and other district technology hardware and software; provide backup coverage to the IT Help Desk; maintain currency in industry standard computer and networking applications and demonstrate flexibility and willingness to learn about new and emerging technology; follow proper work procedures, observe all regulations pertinent to the work, maintain a good working relationship with other employees, and cooperate in maintaining a healthy learning and working environment; perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
