Job summary

Workland is seeking a Handicapped Student Attendant for Mansonville Elementary School in Mansonville, Quebec. The role is 5 hours per week at 11:25 am to 12:25 pm, regular status, with a potential effective date of October 26, 2026. Salary: $25.11-$26.78 per hour, supervised by the school principal.

The attendant will assist handicapped students with activities, supervise recess and meals, support personal care, and help teachers by recording observations and sharing information as required.

Qualifications

• Diploma or equivalent recognized by the province.
• 1 year of experience in areas requiring self-discipline and basic psychology and human-relations skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist handicapped students in moving between locations and to/from transportation.
• Ensure the student's personal hygiene.
• Supervise students during recess, lunch, and recreation time.
• Assist the teacher in communicating basic concepts of cleanliness and personal care.
• Assist the student in preparing and carrying out pedagogical activities.
• Record observations concerning the student's needs and behaviours; inform staff as required.
• Perform other related duties.

Nature of the work

Assist handicapped students in participating in activities related to their schooling.

Description of tasks

• Assists the student in moving from one location to another, including to and from their mode of transportation
• Ensures the student's personal hygiene
• Supervise students during recess and lunch, meal periods, and recreation time
• Assists the teacher in communicating basic concepts of cleanliness and personal care, such as dressing, eating and drinking
• Assists the student in preparing and carrying out pedagogical and student activities
• Records observations concerning the student's needs and behaviours. May be required to inform teachers, parents and other designated staff and give advice on the measures specified in the individual education plan.
• Perform any other related duty.

Other requirements

1. Hold a certificate dated no more than three (3) years attesting to the successful completion of:
   1. a standard first aid course of a minimum eight (8)-hour duration;
   2. a refresher course of a minimum six(6)-hour duration updating the skills acquired in the course mentioned in subparagraph 1.
